Star Wars: The Clone Wars S4

The forecast has an interesting discussion on the episodes so far. Krell is less Jedi is more of a General. Is Krell tossing away his Jedi teachings to be more of a general? Is the war corrupting him???

-Chris

I think that Palpatine is behind all of this. I think the clone troopers, like everyone else, are being manipulated by him. This whole invasion seems to be lacking a real strategic goal -- it's just attack here, attack there, drive up the casualties. But I think that might be deliberate. Just a guess, but I think he might authorize the clones to take out Krell by the end of this story arc. Maybe he's trying to shake their trust in the Jedi, so that when the time comes to execute Order 66 in ROTS, precedence will already have been established. (Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to see the actual creation of Order 66 in the next episode.) This would certainly change my attitude towards the clones in ROTS, since they would now be doing what they think is necessary, and not just following some behavioral pre-programming.

My biggest question is whether or not Krell is being played as well. I think either way he's going to end up on the wrong end of a blaster.

Guess we'll see soon enough.

Another interesting thing they brought up in the forecast was ORDER 66, why does Anakin get a pass from the Clones if this order was programmed into them at their creation?? How did the Clone Troopers know Anakin was okay???

totally,.

a little off topic here I was wondering when anikan leads the attack on the jedi temple is he using the 501st and is rex with him?

Interesting design for the Z-95-it's a bit less X-wing like than the regular EU versions, but we could put that down to variations or different models or whatever.

It is the 501st but it is Arc Trooper Appo who is leading them, also seen in these episodes.

The entry does say that there were various versions of the fighter.

I really like seeing these Clone have some good screen time and develop some interesting and funny characters. Placing them in this kind of story where their necks are really on the line adds to their depth. Pity the movies couldn't spare some time for them, might have made episode III a lot more interesting.

I agree. All we got was some banter between Cody and Obiwan. Nothing to really show they were individuals. The question is, are the clones of the 501st the exception to the rule? Are there other clones like this, the "bad batchers"? This seems to be the first time Krell has led clones that don't respect him out of hand. He actually has to earn their respect.

I also think it is pretty cool that some clones have personalized their battle armor.

If anyone's ready Zahn's Outbound Flight, the C'Boath could be the template from which Krell was created.

Arrogant, full of own self worth, contemptuous of non-Jedi that you wonder how he got promoted to Jedi Master.

But it's book so of dubious canon.

You sure that in this case it wasn't a forgetting the reason he (or his clone at least) went insane and making it seem like the character was always an axe-happy nutjob, kind of like with Frank Miller's version of Batman.

It is kind of odd that the Jedi council hasn't noticed the rate at which Krell goes through his Clone units. Are Asoka, Anakin and Ben the only Jedi who treat their clones like people?

So far Krell is the only one shown that doesn't.

Anakin never fought Grievous or met him until ROTS.

Right. Now I'm working through the series again from the start and she how Anakin fights Dooku and Obi Wan fights Grevious but not all together. I do believe at one point Anakin and Grevious were battling in starfighters.

It helps to get things straight from the start and I haven't rewatched much of them. A remarkable series, easily the best sci-fi on today.

There are certain things that I expected to change over the course of the series... the clones changing helmets, possibly some characters killed off, Rex perhaps.

I wonder... will we see the scene leading up to Padme and Anakin conceiving Luke and Leia?

I also wonder why we never see the huge, looming OG-9 Homing Spider Droid. It was so kick ass in Clones but never makes an appearance in the Clone Wars series. I figured a non-canon explaination was that they were an expensive failure after the Battle of Geonosis, but according to Wookiepedia: "After Geonosis, homing spider droids became common staples of Confederate armies." Anyway, cool droid. Wish we saw more of it.

Also... Anakin is a jedi padawan in Clones, and a knight in Sith. Don't we get to see his transition in the series? I seem to remember they did something with it in the 2D animated Clone Wars series. Did this happen at all in this series? I can't find anything useful about it on Wookiepedia. I know that it does try together info from games, comics and animated series' but I just can't dig up an answer to that.

I may have missed some points that I'll catch up on rewatching. I'm enjoying the ongoing discussion about the free will of the clones in this 4 parter. My thoughts were that perhaps after this incident, Palps may do more to reduce the free will of his clones, adjust them somehow in an upcoming episode. "Cody" does try to kill Obi-Wan without any second thoughts in Sith.

So why is Krell a Jedi again?

Oh and Krell has delt with clones who didn't like how he did things. [sarcasm]Gee I wonder why?[/sarcasm]

So foreshadowing and a possible explaination for Order 66.

Apparently he's a fallen Jedi who succumbed to the lure of the Dark Side. It's been known to happen, and is due to happen to Anakin in a big way.

The first 2/3 of the finale was pretty impressive, very emotionally intense -- especially the part where the clones realized they'd been firing on each other. That was powerful. Unfortunately, it fell apart when Krell turned into a 1-dimensional, melodramatic, cackling villain. It took what had been an intense, mature story of the horrors of war and dehumanization and reduced it to a very juvenile action cartoon. It would've been better if Krell had been motivated by bigotry against clones, which is where it's seemed to be going throughout the whole 4-parter.

When the credits ran, I realized that, aside from Tom Kane as the narrator, there were only two voice actors in the whole episode, Dave Fennoy as Krell and Dee Bradley Baker as literally everyone else. It's rather striking that they've done a movie-length Star Wars adventure entirely from the POV of the clone troopers, with Captain Rex as the main character. They're really living up to the title of the series.

This episode is definitely in my top 5 episodes of all time. Wow. What a great foreshadow to the issue of Order 66. The question is, do some clones rebel against it. This series needs to actually go through Revenge of the Sith and end shortly after it. Loved the scenes when Rex realizes the other side are really clones.

When the clones decide to stop Krell, the lighting, the camera angles, the music all screamed ORDER 66.

I would have preferred if the Krell has sensed the clone betrayel in ROTS and was trying to get every clone killed or undermined. He did descend into crackling mad, mustache-twirler at the end.

Still, this was an excellent episode and I was impressed with some of the situations they put the clones into. The friendly fire scene was powerful and even the scene where Dogma (that was his name, right?) executed Krell. You rarely see scenes like that on live-action television, let alone cartoons. It's impressive the type of stories they tell on The Clone Wars.

The action was also very impressive and the Jedi REALLY could have used a guy like Krell during Order 66. They might have been able to take out a few more clones in the process.

It really makes me wonder what Rex wil write about the incident into his report.

Will some clones get court martial despite what hapened.

Too bad we dont have time for the fallout.

Wow, looks like they did swap helmets to the ep3 version recently! I missed it I guess.

Watching last night's episode as the same day that I rewatched The Hidden Enemy, which I believe somewhat foreshadows this 4-parner just concluded. The idea being that the clones are somewhat open to manipulation over their original programming (I hope Sifo Dias got a receipt, because the clones do not appear to be "as advertised").

What bothered me about Trespass is how the entire treachery of Slick was sort of shurgged off by Anakin and Obi-Wan, when they should have been going straight to the Jedi council to say, "hey... we're in deep shit. Ventress can just 'buy off' any of our clones for a price. We should have a chat with the Kaminoans." Instead Anakin just says something like, "let's go win this war" and the incident seems to have no lingering importance.

It would've been better if Krell had been motivated by bigotry against clones, which is where it's seemed to be going throughout the whole 4-parter.

Yeah, I felt that as well. Why not hate the clones? There were a couple of things Krell said earlier in the series that certainly was suggesting things along those lines... "just clones" etc. Too bad that chance to do that kind of story was avoided. I wonder if that was the original story idea which got watered down at the last minute for the audiences' age group?
