I'd really prefer to have an entire library of movies stored on a little hard drive in my living room.

Several, if they're full-rez movies. It would still take up less room than your entire library on DVD and Blu-ray, though.

Yes but the entire sound mix for the DC is different.

Yeah they currently reside in a 2 metre tall bookshelf, and it's getting full!
