Star Trek: The Continuing Mission

Bry_Sinclair

Vice Admiral
Admiral
In early 2382, all contact is lost with the U.S.S. Enterprise-E, whilst the ship is on a routine patrol of the Breen border. Worries arise that the ship was ambushed by the aggressive but secretive Breen, but as a full investigation is launched no evidence of an attack or foul play is found. Starfleet does however increase the number of ships it has along the border, just in case.

Four months later, on the outer fringes of Federation space in the Beta Quadrant, the Enterprise reappears, however the crew is not onboard. There is no damage to the ship and her computer records show nothing after the day she vanished. Towed into dry-dock for a full analysis, the SCE teams can't find any explanation.

Starfleet Command decides to assign a new crew to the ship, to continue its mission whilst also searching for what happened to Captain Picard and his crew.

Captain Elizabeth Shelby – Reassigned from the starship Sutherland to assume command.

Commander Manuele Atoa – Shelby’s former Second Officer on the Sutherland, who she promotes and takes with her.

Lieutenant Commander Sam Lavelle – Once an officer on the Enterprise-D, now the new Operations Manager.

Lieutenant Commander Lisa Neeley – A veteran of the Dominion War, she proudly serves as Chief Security Officer.

Lieutenant Commander Taurik – Once and officer on the Enterprise-D, now he serves as the Chief Engineering Officer

Lieutenant Mordock – The first Benzite through the Academy, he now serves onboard as the ship’s Tactical Officer.

Lieutenant Dorian Collins – The only surviving member of Red Squad, she serves as Conn Officer in honour of her dead squad.

Lieutenant Hedril – The first Cairn in Starfleet, she now serves as the new Counsellor and Diplomatic Officer.

Lieutenant Simon Tarses MD – With backing from Doctor Crusher and Captain Picard, he was able to stay in Starfleet and train as a Doctor.

Ensign Icheb – A former Borg drone, rescued by the U.S.S. Voyager, he attended Starfleet Academy and now serves as Science Officer.

Cheers Admiral.

Was one of those, "where are they now and what are they doing with themselves" kinda ideas. With the added bonus of being on and Enterprise and a good old-fashioned mystery thrown in as well.

^ I assume that the premise of the series would be the new crew discovering where the old disappeared to? I trust too that the Enterprise's data banks and sensor logs had been wiped with any info? If you turn this into a fan fic...I'd read it.

That would be the uinderlying long-term plot, whilst they also carry out other missions along the way.

As for turning it into a fanfic, I had a similar idea for another ship that I've still got to work on.

Jeri Ryan as captain Annika Hansen or no buys. :p

This is interesting...even though I didn't care for Icheb too much...the character being involved is a great touch.

I was almost surprised she didn't get her own spin off, then I remember from S4 onwards Voyager became Star Trek: Seven

^ Yep it pretty much did. Seven became the focal point of many of the stories and side-plots which I wouldn't have minded much if they were actual good. They really failed I think to take advantage of Jeri Ryan's acting chops and made her too much eye candy.

I would add in that the shuttles and escape pods are all still onboard and in place, and the transporters have no traces of them being used to beam the crew off the ship. The records, and crew logs didnt immediately show anything unusual or dangerous up to the abrupt end of new entries.

Lemme guess. The crew never left the ship. ;) Which of the characters will be the one who keeps noticing "strange things"? Maybe Tarses, given the connection to Picard and Crusher?

Big cast, maybe too many. I like bringing back Taurik, Dorian Collins and Icheb.

Ten characters is a large cast. I'm guessing that some of them won't get as much screen time as others (traditional it seems for a trek series :) )

Maybe they start vanishing! One by one!

And are the crew creeped out by Icheb? Do they believe he's really cured? I sure wouldn't.

For that matter, does anyone else see a resemblance between Icheb and Gabe from The Office?

Edit: Correction: Aside from "Future Icheb," who was a fine piece of eye candy

Well that goes without saying. Everything is normal onboard, except there are no crew.

Nope, they're gone. Where to and how is anyone's guess.

Well in my head, having the same officer in charge of security and tactical always seemed stupid, besides, I wanted to get as many established characters back as possible.

It's hard trying to get characters I liked that hadn't been killed (if they were still in the land of the living Lieutenant Hawk and Ensign Hoya would both be onboard). Curse the writers and directors for killing off the good extras!

Well since you're the writer, you know...right?

1. Alternate dimension

2. Alternate timeline

3. Alternate timeline in an alternate dimension (oh they're screwed)

4. Sped up a la Scalosions (what's that buzzing?)

5. Dematerialized into the floors and walls (stupid drywall tickles)

6. Miniaturized (watch where you walk, bigfoot!)

7. Invisible (that's fine, just ignore me, I'm used to it)

8. Ya know those stacks of styrofoam dodecahedrons in one of the storerooms? Try not to crush any of them.

9. They're still on the "real" Enterprise...this new crew are the ones who aren't.

Honestly?

I don't have a clue. Just a mystery that would need unravelling over time. The whole idea of the Federation Flagship being a ghost ship was the only thing I had in mind.

^ I'd really love to see you flesh this out into a story. Like I said, I'd read this instantly. I think it has a lot of potential. There's not been a Trek mystery series before.

Better to think of the ending now, so you can craft the whole story to lead up to that point, dropping hints along the way that are only obvious in retrospect. Don't paint yourself in a corner and then end up like Lost. :rommie:

Try to think of a solution to the mystery that nobody would guess! But not something that comes off as stupid or out of left field. That's the challenge.
