March 30, 2023 – Paramount+ today announced the series order for the all-new original series STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY. Not an April Fools joke, apparently.

Uhhhggg.Sounds like it is set in the 32nd century. Discovery was mostly bad and the 32nd was too advanced and boring. I'm Glad Mathalas did a good season of Picard to wrap things up nicely for 25th century trek.....
But won't bother with anymore new Trek now. I'm not remotely interested in a Starfleet academy show made by Kurtzman...

First time in a century?

Post Disco show? Doesn't excite me as much as 24th/25th century Trek or even set in the early years of the Federation - like maybe the first class of students in the new Federation era of 22nd century.

Also hope this isn't our version of a CW teen/young adult drama.

Gonna be honest, I'm not very thrilled mainly because I was hoping that the next show to be announced was going to be a spinoff of Picard. Considering the cutbacks happening at Paramount+, I can't see them announcing two new live action shows (assuming Starfleet Academy is live action). I really hope I'm wrong.

They'll save money with this one, it won't cost anything like what Discovery was. I also wouldn't be overly surprised if they end up canning Prodigy after the second season.

My guess is that we'll eventually end up with 3 live-action shows covering various points of the Trek timeline:
- SNW (pre-TOS)
- Titan/Legacy (post-TNG)
- ST: 90210 (32nd century)

And then one animated series (Lower Decks).

That will still cost a lot less than what they're paying now.

LOL @ ST: 90210

But that makes sense. Especially Prodigy only being a few seasons. I kinda see it being similar to Picard in that Kate Mulgrew probably won't commit to more than a few years of doing this. Who knows though.

(sighs)

I am not excited by this. I will give it a shot, and maybe I'll be surprised, like I was with PRODIGY.

But this feels like a teen drama, and I am not a fan of those.

I really am curious. But I wasn't fully sold on Tilly. I loved her in the beginning, but I felt the producers realised people like her character for her somewhat awkward character and amplified it too much. Then again, I did enjoy her more 'certain of myself and confident' side that they developed during the years.

In any case, it's funny to see that after a few posts the usual type of fan has already condemned this show to be shit before having seen anything like cast, characters, a trailers, a couple of episodes....
Oh well....

I’ve never been a fan of this 40 year old pitch……maybe they will shock me and do something amazing. My track record is spotty….I hated the idea of DS9 to begin with…..

I don't know what I think of it. If it takes place in the 25th Century, then I'll think, "We'll see." If it takes place in the 32nd Century, then I'm looking forward to at least seeing more Tilly. But more than when it takes place or who the adult characters are, the kids will make or break Starfleet Academy.

I like Prodigy, and I didn't expect to be a fan of that one at all. So, yeah. All I've got.
