Star Trek Rotten Tomatoes Rating

"I'd much rather have one good, critically acclaimed, low-grossing Trek movie than a new series of them based on the financial success of something that stoops to the level of Armageddon and Independence Day in mediocrity"

Well I understand your point, I have to say that independence day is a kick ass film.

Don't count on the Enterprise until it launches. This reminds me of all the hype surrounding Watchmen. All the early reviews were positive but eventually most of the mainstream critics gave it average reviews and most audience found the movie confusing. I predict the same will happen to Star Trek. Most reviewers will give it average reviews (RT score of 50%) with the dreaded "Star Trek fans will be pleased" nonsense and mainstream viewers will go meh. ST will open big but fall away quickly. Paramount will make back it's money because of DVD and foreign markets but will shelve ST because the franchise has no staying power.

Watchmen was hyped for way too long and people were expecting another "V for Vendetta." Instead, they gone a long, confusing throwback to the comic. Star Trek promises to be far more mainstream like the first X-Men movie. I'm infinitely more optimistic.

I've never heard anybody bash Independence Day...

Watchmen as a movie was never under anyone's radar besides the rabid fanboys online. Everyone else knew it as the movie being directed by "the director from 300". Was it a good movie? To me it was. Was it a thoroughly entertaining movie? Not really.

Actually while there were some early reviews that were quite positive for Watchmen, but before it even reached ten it was receiving negative reviews (some quite negative).

This film has also been screen to far far, far more people then Watchmen was with almost all reports being at the very least positive about the film.

In fact, now we stand with 17 positive reviews and still a 100 % rating. I don't follow rottentomatoes.com super closely, but that seems like that is a sure track to a "fresh"rating. I doubt that of the remaining 100 critics all of a sudden 50-70% will say the movie is trash.
