They replicate stuff from shit, not deuterium.IIRC, deuterium is the raw material they use to replicate stuff from. There's no point in using deuterium to replicate deuterium.

In the 2100s, maybe. They replicate stuff from shit, not deuterium.
In the 2100s, maybe.
What always amused me is a few years after that episode there was another episode of Voyager which completely contradicted that. Aliens steal Voyager's deuterium supply, and everyone's just scratching their heads asking "why would anyone steal deuterium? You can take it from everywhere."Thinking about deuterium makes me angry because of that plot point in Voyager where they're running low.
Deuterium is made from Hydrogen, 1/3 of all matter in the universe is hydrogen. How the hell do you run out deuterium?
I forgot about that. But at least that one made sense, the void was well, void of all matter. What always amused me is a few years after that episode there was another episode of Voyager which completely contradicted that. Is it me, or does "The Void" make a very good trap for bad guy StarShips.I forgot about that. But at least that one made sense, the void was well, void of all matter.
According to Memory-Alpha there was also a plot point in an Enterprise episode that Deuterium was a very valuable substance.
I mean maybe in the 22nd Century it was still hard to make on massive scale for some species.
In the 2100s, maybe.
