"As Gwyn struggles to find her role aboard the U.S.S. Protostar, Dal tests his leadership skills in the newly discovered holodeck." - TrekMovie.com

This episode was amazing. What a tribute to three legends of the Star Trek franchise. Did they just take recordings of old clips and just inserted them where they were appropriate? I mean this is marketed as a kids show, but the dedication to Rene, James Doohan, and Leonard Nimoy actually made me a little emotional. Also, we're starting to discover the mysteries of the Ship and Dal trying to beat the Kobyashi Maru was funny as heck with even a little tribute to Beyond thrown in there too. Hell, this is the first time I've laughed hard at a Star Trek episode in a while.

Welcome back Prodigy.

*LOVED* this episode.

For anyone/everyone who said “this doesn’t feel like Trek enough,” this was the episode you were waiting for. From the breathtaking and perfect rendition of the Enterprise-D bridge, to the character and plot development, to the use of hologram Uhura, Crusher, Odo, Spock and Scotty, this was a winner from start to finish for me.

‪‪I continue to love the characters more with each episode, and the ending with the recording of Chakotay, and the reveal that our Hologram Janeway worked with him, it all worked perfectly. And Drednok’s mention that they’ve been searching for the Protostar for years already in the flashback to Gwyn’s conception, and Gwyn’s entire 17 years being spent on Tars Lamora, combined with Chakotay being its previous Captain, and the now confirmed ”present”’ of the show established as 2383, ‪‪I think we’re almost certainly in for some Protostar’s protostar drive/the anomaly Chakotay mentioned-caused time travel shenanigan explanations.

Can’t wait for next week’s episode, hoping it might include some flashbacks to Chakotay and his crew, where we’ll get to meet Daveed Diggs, Jameela Jamil and Jason Alexander’s characters.

Fun fact: Medusans have a hive mind

Amazing suprises: Uhura, (creepy) Beverly, (Seth Meyers-esque) Odo, Scotty, and (odd) Spock!!!
There's so much Nimoy in this episode!

Nice references: The KM display looks very similar to the one in WoK, the K'tarian game, the accurate Galaxy bridge, the accurate, unchanged, TNG era Klingons!

The Klingon rations pack literally says "ration" XD

Dal went all Boims when he re-ran it again and again, and even became Nero ("Fire everything!!"), then confused the enemy with music like in Beyond

The ship was already known during TNG S3, stardate 43929.9 (2366), which they say was 17 years ago, setting this episode in 2383

Chakotay commanded the ship before! (Before he joined the Maquis, as a Lt. Cdr.?!) And Janeway was his holo assistant back then already? Very odd...

Hearing all those sound bytes made me think of that Chef South Park episode. Luckily they gave them more respect than here. :)
So Chocolatey was the Protostar captain. That’s interesting. We all assumed he was on a different ship

thank Christ they called it a holodeck and not a holo. That annoys me to no end in discovery.

Maybe it wasn’t originally a Starfleet vessel? They acquired it later and retrofitted it.

Was Chakotay's uniform the FC Era movie uniform used on DS9 or a unique uniform that might be specific to the Protostar crew on their experimental mission?

The presence of Hologram Janeway in the Voyager era uniform in the Chakotay flashback makes it seem like there have to be time travel shenanigans, as it must have been launched after the Voyager crew returned to the Alpha Quadrant.

I'm beginning to think whoever said this takes place in 2383 made a mistake.

As of this episode we have confirmation the “present” of the series is 2383. The “Stardate 43929.9” was shown onscreen, and then shown to be 17 years ago, in the flashback sequence, and as @NCC-73515 pointed out, that puts the past date at 2366, which verifies the previously established date of 2383 from official, but offscreen sources.

Looked unique to me.

great episode . Really enjoyed it. I wish dal would be more open and not be so anal about not seeking out the Federation. They would gladly accept them.

So, time-travel from a near future date to the past likely.

Holo-Janeway is some kind of creepy recreation of Janeway that Chakotay used? I don't really love the idea of Chakotay needing such a crutch. He was a leader in his own right before Voyager.

The holo-Crusher dialogue didn't seem to be sound clips from before. Was Gates McFadden in the guest cast?
