i mean, even palpatine found someone eventually...
well, so his clone managed to get busy! Not quite.
Palpatine's "son" was actually a clone of him, created to be a younger body for Palpatine to inhabit when his existing body aged and failed. But the clone went rogue and became 'independent'.
I think Gwyn was created with tech.
Of course, it's possible the Diviner wasn't always so awful and had a wife who died after having Gwyn. I picture a Vau N'Akat woman who wasted away from grief and neglect, watching her husband's obsession make him progressively more cold and distant.
Hate it when Trek steals from Marvel. My God, the man wants the Protostar even more than his own DAUGHTER!![]()

We've also had examples where the villains ended up obsessed with SF heroes because they put a 'kink' into their plans.

I honestly didn't get that vibe.
As I said, the Diviner clearly felt conflicted when he left Gwyn behind. It's not like he just tossed her aside without a second thought. I think he was genuinely hurt by it. And you'll notice it takes him awhile to make the final decision.
He said he had no choice...and, at least on some level, I believe him. We'll just have to see exactly why he wants the Protostar so badly. Perhaps the Vau N'Akat are a dying race, and he sees the ship as the salvation of his people?
I've called my daughter that too. They weren't all that close (The Diviner called her his "progeny").
I've called my daughter that too.
No, only on unique occasions. All the time?
When The Diviner tried to show affection, Gwyn outed him as a fake!
I think this is exactly the kind of situation they are going for. In fact it would be very interesting if in the end his goals were justified even if his actions to reach them obviously questionable. He said he had no choice...and, at least on some level, I believe him. Let's put it this way: I can totally see the Diviner 1) sacrificing himself to save his daughter, 2) turning against Drednok (whom I see as FAR more evil), or 3) both.
