Seeing the Hood was cool. She's gotta be near end of service life by now but is still considered at least a mid tier vessel doing "first contacts" and leaving the Cali-classes to clean up.
is anyone able to see if that was Excelsior class or a new Obena class Hood?

It was definitely the Excelsior class Hood. They even recreated the flyby of the Hood from Farpoint that got reused for nearly every other Excelsior throughout TNG.
didn't note that but it’s exactly the kind of nerdy detail I’d expect from LDS!

Though the saucer was as thick (or proportioned the same) as an Obena's. Could chalk that up to art style.

I don't think a show that is all about call backs and Easter eggs will be bothering with all this "A" ship or having new Constitution and Excelsior classes.

Just rewatched the episode. I mentioned above I was perplexed that they decided to attack the nightmare creatures when they could have destroyed the control equipment which was likely jamming comms as well, I’ll add that it’s further perplexing that they attacked them with pipes and crystals when they had phasers which had Turned out being quite effective earlier.

And how did the people who were turned to stone (like Stevens) restored to normal? I must have missed that bit.

If Tana can restore Kayshon from a stuffed toy, she can undo petrification.

Though the ep does imply it's not pleasant - Stevens' dialogue in the bar suggests he saw a koala atop a black mountain... the former is a callback to what the guy in S1 saw whilst ascending, and the black mountain is what Shaxs says is involved in returning from the dead...

I like how they're vague on how people are unstoned. 99% of the ways people are saved in Star Trek are total bullshit anyway. Main characters have plot armor (until they don't); it's not always (ever?) necessary to waste time spouting technobabble whose effect is a foregone conclusion.
