A full season of the latest Star Trek series is over and in the can. What did you think? There doesn't seem to be a general consensus, since opinions are all over the place, but a lot of fans have taken note of a number of positives. The show is a pretty decent homage to the TNG era with the same general aesthetic, lots of references and more than a few easter eggs. Mike McMahan is clearly passionate about TNG and it shows. Add in some good and often clever humor and you've got the perfect show.

Or do we?

A lot of viewers also feel that something is missing. Is it too over the top? For some, maybe. Is it too episodic? Maybe that too. Personally, I think that we need more character development. Something that makes us interested and invested in the characters themselves. Maybe that's one big fix. And fortunately the show is starting to give us some of that, at least with Ensign Mariner, most notably with her underachieving ways. If they can build on that and even find that spark with the other characters (who all have potential), then maybe we'll have a show that more of the naysayers can come to root for.

In this season finale, Boimler deals with Mariner's secret. Enjoy. Discuss.

The Titan ship is now canon. Looks like Eaglemoss will need to make it a numbered issue now. :)
Didn’t see Tuvok or Vale though. Hopefully they are in season 2.

wouldn't “Those old Starfleeters” be better for something to stand for TOS?

That was one hell of a finale that had me by the face the entire time. Loved the comedy beats, the action, and the glorious cameos. Definitely a 10 for me.

I’m curious now about a comment the showrunner made about the completed writing for season 2 where he said “everybody’s still an ensign.” Intentional fib, or will something happen by the end of the first episode of the second season (knowing how the show usually handles plot) that brings everyone back to ensign?

"Those guys had a long road getting from there to here."

That reference to These are the Voyages was amazing. I think the only series that didn't get a reference was Voyager, which is a little unfortunate, but I won't detract it from this episode.

They mention Voyager. They try and recreate its warp core sound

I just realized something. The first contact uniforms are still being worn. I wonder if that's a class thing within the Federation. I assume it is because they have different uniforms for the Acadmy students over those who work on Starships, but maybe the Cerritos is a few tiers below The Enterprise and Titan? I do like that the First Contact uniforms are still being worn though. They really was a great Starfleet look.

Not in this episode though. I'm just talking about the finale, and I don't remember a Voyager reference.
That’s why they should have had Tuvok on tactical, like the Titan novels.

They missed a trick with Riker. They should have had him hymn the TNG theme during the battle like he used to do in the bloopers.
I liked the ENT reference but I don’t like the phrase calling it the “first Enterprise”. To me that would be the 1701 as that was the first Enterprise in the Federation. If you take the others into account wouldn’t the XCV-330 be the first? Or if you go all the way back, would that be the HMS Enterprise?
I would have said NX-01 or Archer’s Enterprise.
