Several reasons. For once, they're actually designing the game around this content instead of simply making new maps for a an outdated engine.

I forget, is it a free-to-play game or a monthly fee with this one? I am just trying to figure out how they plan on making their money back? WOnder if it is going to give STO a run for it's money after-all?

According to the video it's free and financed through the game's item shop.

Uh oh, that makes me think all the good stuff will only be available from the item store with no way ingame to get it just becuase they need the income generated to keep running, I mean MMOs don't run cheap.
