L'Rell also won't die, as we would run out of Klingons.
Voq is still out there somewhere. He isn't dead.
There are also those other members of the High Council we've seen.

That won't happen until we are introduced to a person who would replace him as Captain (replace him "in-universe" as the Captain of the ship AND replace his Captain character in the dramatic telling of the story).I'd be surprised if Lorca makes it through the second season, which is a shame as he's the most interesting character.
I have a feeling that the characters on the hot seat in the future will be
Lorca
Tyler
Which is too bad, because I really like both.
What modern show DOESNT have main characters die? Thinking at least as far back as Rome, when Niobe died. It's not really a Game of Thrones or Walking Dead thing. Except for the antiquarians who were hoping Discovery would be TNG 2.0, I doubt very few people are expecting a show where there's a new slightly hackneyed adventure every week and the good guys come out unscathed and largely forgetful of the events.
...and he opens a closet in Lorca's man-cave, and out pops the cloud creature Lorca was keeping.Season 1.5 will open up with the Discovery exploding and Captain Garrovick of the USS Farragut will investigate this odd wreckage from another universe possibly.
