Spoilers ST Lower Decks - Starships & Technology Season 5 Discussion

Maybe this thread needs a NYE cleaning?
Why? It's a thread about StarShips & Tech.

We just move on and continue talking about the core subject matter.

Who doesn't want to know more about the 1-Nacelle "Freedom Class" USS Cerritos

Well the main reason I don’t watch them is because I guarantee that they aren’t going to say anything that I don’t already know myself. If it was a vid from Greg Jein, the Okudas, Doug Drexler, Rick Sternbach, or even the guy working on Lower Decks who designed the ship, then they would have my attention. Two random dudes on the internet filming themselves giving their opinions about stuff is not something I tend to waste my time with.

I’m sure that I know more about it than they do.

Ok, up to you. If you have the knowledge base, by all means.
Not all of us have that knowledge base or foundation.
Commander Cockings works with the actual Studio 3D models + his own fan films, and has had some time interacting with Doug Drexler & Rick Sternbach on a more personal level.
So I value his insights into the models.
Plus he has a good eye for details.

I’m sure that I know more about it than they do.
Good for you, I don't necessarilly know more than them on certain subject matter.

This is one of them.
I'm not that familiar with Single-Nacelle ships.

Also, two pylons forming a Staple like Bracket for the Single Nacelle looks so much better and is far more functional than relying on 1x Pylon.

I’m not telling you to not watch their videos. I’m saying that when it comes to the things they discuss, I tend to know my shit about them. But if Cockings has some inside info he got from Sternbach that I’m unaware of, I would welcome that info.

Depends on the ship.

He also had Rick Sternbach help (design / modify / editorialize) his own unique original StarShip design.

The USS Horizon.

It's definitely one of my favorite designs with a unique special feature.

Just from the thumbnail, it looks like a Prometheus with two nacelles banged a Delta Flyer and that was the result. Kinda ugly. Course I say that about most later 24th century designs. Fan-made or otherwise.

Do you not like StarFleet's 24th century design Motif/Aesthetic?

Are you a 23rd century guy or 22nd century guy?

What era's design style do you prefer?

I prefer the simpler designs of the 22nd and 23rd centuries. Round saucers. Maybe ovals. The arrowhead look has never done it for me. Nor do I like the overly "busy" look of hull detailing that a lot if newer ships have. The STO ships from Picard are especially guilty of this.

Ah, IC. I generally like the 24th- Early 25th century unique designs.

STO designs are literally Hit/Miss with me.

That's a case by case basis, some are stunning, some are fugly.

I don't mind the 2-tone looks that STO goes for, but I've never liked the Aztec-ing print that came from the 24th century.

I much prefer the smooth consistent New Car look that the TOS & TMP connies had.

That 100% new car look + consistent color is really nice.

Also, Orange Bussard Colors + Red Impulse Colors are better IMO.

Having both Bussard & Impulse be Red is a ugly color set choice.

And the Deflector's Blue glow + Warp Field Grille's Blue Glow should be different IMO.

Here's a updated Sovereign Class design that I can get behind

It's also a STO design, but man is this design so much prettier than the Sovereign class.

The STO ships are nothing more than derivative crap based on previous, far better designs.

For me, the nadir of good starship design was the TNG era and the Galaxy class family, including the Ambassador class. Anything designed by Probert, Sternbach, Miarecki, and Jim Martin (mainly the Defiant) I tend to like. I wish there were more Galaxy and Ambassador variants than what we ended up seeing on screen. By the time of FC, ENT, and CBSTrek, my enthusiasm for new ship designs has waned, mainly because in my judgment, the people currently designing stuff simply don’t have the same level of creativity that those other people had.

IC. Well, everybody has the era's & designs that they like. You prefer a certain group of designers.

There are certain ship designs that I like from each generation, but the 24th century gets the bulk of what I like.

It's the one era where I have the most love for.

For my part, I rather like some of the FC style designs like the Sovereign. I don't really play STO so I don't know enough about those designs in their original context, but in some of the more recent series like PIC they've kind of felt like a mixed bag.

Bernd Schneider at EAS says the Beagle is the USS Beagle. Was there a prefix in the episode?

I found it, it was on the Main Viewer when Two-Pipped Kim tried to open the Quantum Fissure.

I highlighted it for you, just incase
