Somebody wrote a Black Widow movie script

Shaka Zulu

...And from what I can see, it looks amazing, with a great set up of Nat getting a guy to take her to see another guy and taking them out. The script's written by long time comics scribe Nathan Edmondson, and he wants to see it made, which is why he's asking for fan support by posting it (here are two pages I'm posting, the rest can be seen at his web site) :

Between its Phase 3 movie slate, multiple Netflix series, and AoS, Marvel Studios has a lot on its plate. It's not going to make a major alteration to its plans because a comic-book writer, even one of their own, wants them to (and is making a personal publicity play in the process). Nor will a few hundred or even thousand online petition signatures have that effect.

Personally, Romanoff doesn't strike me as being a particularly interesting character - she's too mechanical, too blandly hyper-competent. She's scared of the Hulk, sure, but not much else. I'm glad we're getting a Captain Marvel female-led movie instead.

I disagree. She's a living gateway into a part of human history that some miss terribly and others are glad to see the back of and want no reminders of.

A lot of female sci-fi fans disagree, and want to see her on the big screen along with Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel (in particular the writers and readers of this blog.)

I think that ScarJo deserves a franchise of her own, myself; it would be interesting to see how it plays out.

"BUDAPEST, 1990"

So the script is set when Natasha is four years old? I'd be pretty surprised if they ever do the whole Red Room thing in the MCU. But hey, stranger things have happened. Maybe the ballerinas we see in the Ultron trailer are part of Natasha's (false) memories.

Remember when Banner asked Natasha if spies started out as young as that?

What was Natasha's answer?

I don't have a problem with them showing her at four. It's the implication (that I now realize I may have misread) that the opening sequence was set in 1990. But the next scene could of course be a flashback. Being set in Budapest put me in the frame of mind that he was going to tell the Natasha/Clint incident hinted at in Avengers.

This is so true and it's particularly true of Marvel, more so than any other studio (apart from maybe WB's DC-related plans). After all, the level of continuity and inter-connectedness in their films is such that they could probably only insert this film into their schedule with considerable difficulty, rewriting and re-arranging of their other planned films.

Given the success of ScarJo's Lucy, however, I do think a BW solo movie is probably inevitable. I don't think Captain Marvel has to be the only female-led Marvel solo film.

Has The Mary Sue blog ever met a female character they didn't want to see more of? I get the sense they'd rather see a movie about the female SHIELD employee who first greeted Cap when we woke up in the modern day rather than a Hawkeye solo flick. And hey, if that were true, I'd respect that. I'd like to see that woman's movie, also, and I'm all for bigger roles for more actresses at the movies.

That said, Marvel Studios sells dozens of millions of movie tickets a year to audiences in tens of countries. As nice a utopian thought as it may be, the fact that a few fans run and read a blog in no way qualifies them for a seat at the company table.

Her gig on The Mentalist is coming to an end, so I'm sure she'd be up for it. ;)

By point of reference, the Berlin Wall came down 25 years ago this week. Unless Natasha has aged REALLY well, she never worked for the Communists per se. She'd have worked for the regime that is more or less still in power today.

Check the comics. The original version of the character is indeed old enough. Her childhood began before World War II did.

Well, then, that settles it. I look forward to the flashback scene where our movie character played by ScarJo foils a dastardly plot to poison the very first publicly distributed batch of The Pill.
