DOH! The 29th century practice of integrating temporal refugees with their indigenous counterparts however so grating and imperfectly!
I was thinking something spooky happened between scenes during Futures End while Janeway was off Ship being too close to the USS Aeon which couldn't have been serviced half as well as it should have been in the previous 20 years that it was leaking goodness knows what or the radiation from the torpedo she launched manually in the second episode somehow isolated her from the rest of the crew as time sorted itself out, but my bad, it was just business as usual with the 29th Century Time Cops. Wasn't it? (Retroactive Continuity is awesome.)
You see, because in season 3's Futures End Janeway says she doesn't know what her relatives were up to in this time period, but in season 5's 11.59 Kathy is bragging about her turn of the millennium super cool astronaut female pioneer Shannon O'Donnel... Who it turns out wasn't a turn of the millennium super cool astronaut female pioneer at all because... Well that's where 11.59 breaks down despite being a very interesting and quite heart warming story explaining an all too human adventure.
So what if Shannon was supposed to be an Astronaut just like Janeway remembered, but they changed history back when they visited Earth in 1996 splaying Starlings long term goals and even the succession of leadership for chronowerx? maybe even something happened to Dunbar which shouldn't have? That company was the leader in their field and would have been involved in both the space program (Which fired O'Donnel.) and the Millennium Tower(Who would have red flagged the name Janeway with some circumspection, not that there was any one left to do anything about it or know what that red flag meant.), so Starling's "premature/altered" exit could have changed the staffing composition of either.
Wait? That's all in reverse. Why would Janeway know all about Shannon in the time line where she didn't become an astronaut when she didn't know about her as an astronaut in a time line where she did become an astronaut even if the two Janeways memories were mushed together after Braxton(And Braxton.) returned Voyager to the 24th century, it's unlikely that they would have mushed Voyager itself together so that we can at least assume that the historical database used in 11.59 was indigenous to that new timeline as the words coming out of Janeway's mouth in 1996 belonged to the verified history of the previously accepted reality.
Okay, so whatever happened Janeway was messing with time and the richest man in the world just 3 years before 11.59 started and we uncovered a discrepancy in recorded history vs. remembered history as if Phillip K. Dick had written these stories...
What do you think happened?
