Set blueprint exchange

Actually, speaking of which, @Redgeneral, do you want all the extracted panorama images like those Voyager tour ones from TNG tech manual and Captain's Chair for the archive, or are you avoiding those because they were commercial products? I was able to pull them out with a batch conversion through mplayer to image slices and then batch stitching.

I've also got the Star Trek 2009 bridge panoramas from their website tour (one normal, one at red alert). Their panorama viewer also had some corridor panoramas but I haven't been able to find sources for those, sadly, and I spent ages looking.

There's also some panoramas of the Discovery sets.

Someone mentioned that there used to be a tour of the NX-01 on their website but I haven't seen any mention of that in my searches so far.

I definitely remember those, they were released in the lead-up to episode 1 of ENT (I think)
I thought I had them saved but can I find them now?????? :brickwall:

@Bellerophon The extracted panorama images would be great. I hadn't extracted them myself as I lacked both the means and the technical knowledge of how to do so. All Star Trek panoramas would be greatly appreciated.

@batboy853 - Very nice spot, especially the Borg items

TNG Borg
Alcove
Armrest
Railing
Corridor corner

These go nicely together with the TNG Borg Pedestal and TNG Borg Nursery already in the folder - http://archive.frogland.co.uk/#15413559737301

I much prefer the TNG Borg designs (both drones and interiors) over their later ST:FC and VOY designs.

Madiposan Ceiling

Scylla Starbase - clearer photos than the previous ones of this blueprint

Pakled engine area (bridge)

Everything else on the facebook page is already in the archive.

I never realized that Starbase 515 was a redress of the crew quarters corridor. I had to look at an image, and even then, it's very hard to tell.

Memory Alpha really doesn't like you hotlinking their images - hence your picture shows as blank to everyone except you.
Here's a link to an image of the scene in question:
https://tng.trekcore.com/hd/albums/2x17/samaritan_snare_hd_249.jpg
Now I know that M.A. states that it is a redress of the Ten-Forward/Officers' Quarters corridor set, but there's no way that it's the corridor scene which Picard and Wesley are in, as nothing matches. So much would have to have been changed that it would have been easier just to build a new set outright!
Plus there's that very 20th Century hinged glass door and double height lobby area. I suspect it was just a conference centre in Hollywood somewhere.
Also, the page does not provide a citation for the claim
https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Starbase_515

Well, I was the one that added the claim, after looking at the blueprint and then examining the image. I don't know why you say there's no way. The blueprint matches the shot and shows exactly the way they did it. You can see the vertical wall panels on the left of the image that match those in the corridor. If it were a real location, why would they specify that things be built out of stock pieces and that surfaces be painted to look like concrete? It's definitely a set, and it looks like they did what the blueprint instructs.

@Lt. Washburn is correct - It took me a while to understand, but the Starbase section was built onto the stage 8 quarter / ten forward corridor. The corridor alongside the senior quarter was used as part (with a new red carpet), and the wall with the glass door and beyond all being new construction

I've done an analysis of the blueprint and the shot - http://archive.frogland.co.uk/#15415366461389/16408123385193
I've overlaid the Starbase blueprint (archive page) onto the stage 8 floor plan (archive page), and then highlighted the corresponding walls between the screenshot and the plans. Also included is the probable camera position.

Now for the hypothetical - why did they do it this way?
  • Originally the plan was to create a two story entrance on stage 16 (as shown on this blueprint - http://archive.frogland.co.uk/#15415366461389/15415373556778)
  • The main costs that stick out are the two stories, the new lighting, and the four rounded walls (rounded always costs extra)
  • They probably switched to the stage 8 version as it had two existing walls, part of the lighting in place already, and only one curved wall. Reducing costs and time to build.
  • It is a short scene and probably did not warrant much budget - I think the large Pakled bridge took most of the allocated budget.
  • Location shooting had its own costs and was probably simpler just to do this tiny corner of Starbase inhouse. Offhand I can't think of any TNG episodes with location shoots of interiors, just the exteriors.
  • Alternatively more space on stage 16 was required for the Pakled bridge and the Starbase scene set had to be moved.

Cool overlay and interesting note about the prior set plan, I hadn't seen that. Seems they already had the stock door in mind.

Also, did you have any plans for the quarters with more specific measurements like these? That could be helpful.

Also, looking at this has caused me to realize that they did each side wall of the corridor differently. One horizontal, one vertical. Well, there's more vertical elements by the Ten Forward doors, but I'm just talking about what you can see by looking down the corridor. Now, of course I "knew" this already having seen the different walls countless times, but I hadn't really consciously thought about it before now.

I haven't started on the senior quarters yet - for now I'm focusing on mostly the stage 9 sets for the next release of the Galaxy Project.
