Spoilers Season 2 Teaser

Looks like good fun. Hopefully they dial it in and recreate the feeling / tone / pace of the last two episodes of S1 and stay away from the unevenness of the mid-season stuff.

This season's premiering on my birthday. A first ever. Here's hoping the season premiere delivers a Hell of a birthday present! Because then I'll be rocking in 42, Star Trek Style! Sounds OTT, but gotta fit the tempo of trailer! ;)

What did Mariner do to get thrown in the brig? Probably something stupid. Maybe her mom wants to make her an example, showing she won't show favoritism for anyone. And goes way overboard. Which leads to the Samurai Grudge Match!

Boimler's probably going to get himself shipped off the Titan by the end of the first episode. I'd bet money on it. However he messes things up on the Titan will probably be spectacular. Riker's a mile-a-minute and Boilmer's like, "What the Hell do I even do?!?!!!!! AHHHH!!!!!!!!" Then they get hit.

It's all I got.

"What does that even mean?"
A "Lick" usually referred to an improvised solo by one of the band members.

I think the entire of Rikers sentence is "Too many licks and not enough combos"

Which I kinda-sorta think he means that there has been too many folks doing their own thing instead of working together. (?)

A Jazz "Combo" is a reference to a small(ish) musical ensemble that plays jazz together.
It usually consisted of a rhythm section and a horn section.
A trumpet, a trombone, and a saxophone as the horns and the rhythm section consisting of a piano, a guitar, a bass and drums.

Ahh see I heard not enough "comps" i.e. compositions. This would mesh will with the licks which, as you noted, as improvised.

So he is saying too much improv, not enough planned/prepared. At least, that's what I've interpreted Riker to be on about

"Comp" loosely translates to "accompany."

Though I haven't seen the clip yet, the phrase "Too many licks, not enough comp" means, to me, that a member of the group is overplaying. Too many notes, not enough space between. Soloing out of turn.

But I could be wrong. :techman:

I guess it depends on your background - I've always read and heard comp to be composition but I haven't got a jazz background so I'm happy to defer in this instance.

Looking forward to seeing how densely packed the jazz references are in the series itself.

The Miranda-class looks great in animation.

With era-appropriate red ramscoops, too.

Mariner looks happy in the brig, as expected. Is it a special one for her special needs, what with that very lower-deck'y hovercart parked right next to it?

Out of the three teaser trailers of the week, this one has me the most excited... Although not with anything specific in there. I'm just happy to have more Lower Decks.

this is exactly what this means in a Jazz context: a player who does too many licks (melodic passages) when is someone else’s turn to play melodies and not enough comp (chords or other rhythmic patterns).

Really looking forward to this!

Same. I don't have the highest opinion of 'Lower Decks' but I loved the last episode of season 1. Can't say I felt the same about any of Picard Season 1 or Discovery season 3.
