News Season 1 DVD/Blu-Ray Release

The Wormhole

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
According to this site (which does have a proven track record and can be considered reliable) the physical media release for season 1 of Prodigy has been set for November 9. Since it's doubtful the remaining episodes will have aired by then, indeed this is only going to be a week or so after Lower Decks season 3 finishes meaning the new episodes should only begin airing around this time, I'm guessing this means the first ten episodes are being reclassified as "Season 1" and the next ten will be considered "Season 2."

Also, unusually this is going to be released on a Wednesday, rather than the traditional Tuesday which 99% of other DVDs and Blu-rays are usually released on.

EDIT: Just found a listing on Canadian Amazon which titles it "Season 1 Episodes 1-10" which I guess means they might still be considering the forthcoming episodes part of Season 1. Also, Amazon Canada lists the release date on November 8, the traditional Tuesday.

Sept through Dec looks like it is an amazing time to be a Star Trek Blu-ray / 4K collector. The original movies on 4K (well at least the ones they didn't do last year) and all the TV shows. Prodigy was surprisingly pleasant and I look forward to picking up the Blu.

Not super thrilled about breaking up the season, but I love this show and I like to support physical releases. So yeah, making room in the budget for this one.

Well the discs are now coming in January. I'm hoping it also eventually arrives for purchase via digital downoad. That what I'm waiting for.

Btw, I'm in Canada and get Prodigy on Crave . Can anyone confirm if its streaming in 4k there or even on Paramount plus USA? Just curious.

I'm also wondering what the native resolution is for the show itself as its being produced. Is it done on 4k or regular HD?

Dang, why didn't they manage to have it out before the end of the year? Would have loved to get the blu-ray for Christmas.

Pre-order price finally fell from the totally insane, never in a million years level to acceptable so I ordered a couple for friends and family I know will like the show.

"A gal who knows what she wants" is the description for Gwyn. Seems inappropriate to me, especially in the first 6 episodes Gwyn didn't know what she wanted and flipflopped between her need to have friends, be helpful and see the stars on the one hand, and her desire to be a loyal daughter and to get approval from her father on the other hand. I would say this decription would be more apt for Rok.

Still not explicitly confirmed this blu-ray will also come to region B (europe, Africa) or C (far-east).

I'm going to wait till the whole season is available.
Not really interested in buying half a season on disc.

Based on previous Nickelodeon home releases, you might be waiting a loooooong time. Hopefully that isn't the case, but don't be shocked if it's not until a decade after the show ends.

Except Paramount/CBS retains the rights of All Trek for publishing to books & video.
(among most other things)

Nick doesn't even have it exclusive to their channel, since Paramount+ is showing it first.
Nickelodeon is most likely retaining all the ad revenue from it showing on their network and gets a percentage payment from Paramount/CBS based on their monetary input to create the show.

All good points. Weird though that this release style hasn't happened before on modern Trek but it is very par for the course for Nick. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong. :)

Episode 10 was aired on Paramount+ back in February of this year, so it hasn't even been a year yet and They are already releasing the DVD's in less than two weeks. (Jan 3rd)
If we go by the Nick air date, it has only been 5 months.

That alone should be a big indicator that Nick isn't the one deciding when to release the DVD's.
