Well it's got super shitty dialog written by 12 year olds trying to be hip it would seem.

But the gameplay is fun.. That's all that matters
It just released on steam after a year on Epic.

Bonus for them screwing up and all the DLC is unlocked in the base game

Volition has experienced a lot of brain drain over the past decade-plus, basically once THQ's financial issues led to problems making payroll. Essentially no one who worked on Saints Row 2, The Third or Saints Row IV (which was originally going to be an expansion pack for The Third, and then THQ twisted Volition's arm to make it a full-on sequel) is there anymore.

But the gameplay is fun

I wish I could agree, but I can't. There's nothing to do on the map, so the gameplay is essentially "go to nav point, shoot a bunch of dudes--who are goddamn bullet sponges--then wash, rinse, repeat."

I can see where people would say that and see your point. But as a new release I found myself having a little bit of fun. It's no Zero Dawn or big title but for what it is I can't say I didn't enjoy my time so far. But ugh the main characters are the kind you want all dead.

I enjoyed playing the game - but it sure wasn't a Triple A title. It lacked way too much substance for that. If they had sold this one for 30 or 40 dollars it would have been okay. But people expect more from a Triple A game than repetitive missions, a vast but practically empty map once you've cleared out all the things, a paper thin plot and cardboard-like main characters whose only real trait is that they're annoying as hell.

So yeah I can see why the game got the backlash it did. It would have been okay as a quirky indie game, but NOT as a Triple A Saints Row reboot.

Oh gods this a thousand times. For what it is it was OK. I only payed about 26 dollars for it so I don't feel that cheated. The characters are way too annoying for long periods but I am having fun with the missions so far and finding collectibles, I like that kind of thing in games so that's got me kind of happy.

It wasn't a huge success even a year ago when it first came out.

Yeah, and adding salt to the wounds, the day before the closure was announced, it was announced the Saints Row reboot would be one of the games for September.

Sad but inevitable news. One thing that tanked the last official instalment of Saints Row (which on hindsight arguably peaked/started declining with the third game) was a total lack of the Mix 107.77 radio station; where the fuck are my soft rock balllards, kitschy pop, and ironic dance music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s?!

I tried Saints Row 2022 out because it was on PS+, got bored/irritaited by it in about 2 hours, and (while far from the worst problem), the radio stations did suck. Two of my favorite moments in the SR franchise involve goofy older music choices. In Saints Row 3, rescuing Shandi while "Holding Out for a Hero" plays was awesome, and climbing the rocket in the into of Saints Row IV while Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" brought awesome Armageddon vibes.

Admittedly the radio stations have never been amazing for me, SR 2 probably had the most tracks that I listened to (Final Countdown, Down Under, Don't You (Forget about Me), Karma Chameleon, and Take On Me were basically my soundtrack to Saints Row 2). SR IV ruined that station it by making it old pop and rap/hip hop songs (as if there isn't enough damn rap/hip hop/etc on the other stations). Still, even SR IV had a few decent songs, but Saints Row 2022 was literally just all music I despise, and some generic classical music.

I'll admit that I'm not one for modern music, and I know that hating rap/hip hop/etc means that I'm never going to like most of the music in games like SR or GTA, but there is literally nothing good in the music of SR 2022, not a single bone thrown towards people who liked the goofier/older stuff in the other games. It goes along with the story, cast and gameplay of the game I guess, as in its all obnoxious and unentertaining. I think that I hated the SR 2022 cast more then I hated the Watch Dogs 2 cast, and they were bad enough that I dropped the game despite liking its gameplay (as opposed to SR 2022, where I disliked the story/cast and found the gameplay boring).

I got slightly broader music tastes than a decade or so ago, the bland or too obscure soundtrack may not only be tied into a relatively low production budget (ie. licensing issues) but also the lead remaining creatives lacked the sense of dry wit or satire, and broad music appeal that we saw with older SR and GTA radio stations....

Watch Dogs 2. God Gah........ Hated everyone in the game but finished it because once I start a game I have to at least finish the main story. As for the car radio in games. I wish more games had an option to just silence them

You can silence them in the GTA franchise as of the last iteration of GTA V.

My tracklist for a hypothetical Mix 107.77 for the last Saints Row game:

The Mix 107.77

Yazz - "The Only Way Is Up"
AC/DC - "Evil Walks"
Sade - "Hang On To Your Love"
Steps - "Last Thing On My Mind"
New Kids On The Block - "Step By Step"
Pet Shop Boys - "Being Boring"
Erasure - "Always"
Baltimora - "Tarzan Boy"
Backstreet Boys - "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)"
Stiltskin - "Inside"
Daft Punk - "Get Lucky"
A Perfect Circle - "Pet"
The Presidents Of The United States - "Peaches"
Rednex - "The Spirit Of The Hawk"
Lisa Lougheed - "Run With Us"
Moloko - "Pure Pleasure Seeker"
Nirvana - "Come As You Are"
ABC - "The Look Of Love"
Wax - "A Bridge To Your Heart"
Texas - "Inner Smile"
Metallica - "Enter Sandman"
Seal - "Kiss From A Rose"
Smashing Pumpkins - "Tonight, Tonight"

Underworld - "Born Slippy (Nuxx)"
Spice Girls - "2 Become 1"
OutKast - "Ms. Jackson"

I have to admit SR games did have good music in the cars but over time I usually just turned off the stations unless I found myself liking them, not that the cars lasted that long haha

To be honest, I hardly use the radio in games like these, as I prefer just listening to the ambient sounds including the car's engines. Although one thing I did like from the Mafia remake was that the radio itself was part of the ambience when you could hear it via other vehicles.

Picked this up for $17.99 (US) on the Xbox store. Fairly decent gameplay, but the characters are annoying.

I didn't realize you could do that! That's kind of hilarious. I've only played the 2nd and 3rd games and I don't remember being able to do that. I have good memories of playing the 3rd game. That whole Burt Reynolds cameo was pretty funny.
