Cool - don't cock it up, Amazon.

Any suggestions for casting the following?

Louis Wu
Teela Brown
Nessus (voice)
Speaker-to-Animals (voice)
Halrloprillalar Hotrufan (aka "Prill")
Seeker

Interesting. It has been sooooo long since I read any of the Ringworld-verse novels that I don't actually recall anything, really, other than the concept of the ringworld itself.

What was the name for the milieu? Was it 'Known Space?'

Yes

I'm going to need something more than an IMDb entry and a Fandom article before I'm convinced we might actually see an adaptation, however long overdue it is. In fact, the most recent source links in the latter are four years old.

IIRC, (and I may not, it was a long time ago), the books were kind of a slow exploration burn where nothing really exciting happened and no startling revelations were made. The interesting part was really the ringworld itself, which was so large that its living area would take many centuries or even millennia to properly explore.

If my memory is correct, they'll need to make some radical adaptations in order to make a show that's not a gigantic snoozefest.

It would work best as an going series than a film. Ringworld Engineers was by far my favorite entry of the four primary novels and that was largely because it went a long way to explore the cultures and history of the planet. Even though even then that barely scratched the surface.

Niven tied the Ringworld series in with an earlier novel "Protector", whose premise could be explored farther in an adaptation. I think one or miniseries would be the way to go, but I agree it would need enlivening for modern viewing. Perhaps throw in other Known Space references as well - there is much material to exploit. *

* Particularly, as the Ringworld has copies of many planets in Known Space - albeit in flattened 2D form - populated by animals and plants brought back from the original worlds.

I've always meant to read Protector especially after they were introduced in the Ringworld series (in Engineers or Throne, I forget which). I have an old copy somewhere...

We know from DNA sequencing that humans and other anthropoids originated here on Earth, but to imagine otherwise is a fun conceit that Douglas Adams also used. I liked the novel, probably more than I should have. It also has a degree of body horror that might work well on screen for the character of Teela Brown.
