Really nice gaming experiences.

I haven't played the game Journey in a long time but I noticed on steam a "thank you" thread for people that have meet up inside that game, that has been running since 2020. It's so refreshing to see such a positive discussion about something game related.

Journey is one of the few really nice games I have enjoyed over the years. You take the role of a person wandering from your starting point in a desert to snow capped mountains at the end. The thing that makes it fun is that along the way random people will spawn into your game to walk with you and sometimes help you out. It was, and still is one of the nicest experiences I have had gaming over the years and I want to dive into it again sometime in the near future when I am done with some of my bigger games.

So anyone else played this and also enjoyed it, and any other games that offer the same kind of experience you could recommend?

Honestly, I felt a little confused with Journey. I like the minimalist approach it has going for it, but at the same time, there were many moments in that game the person the other player and I were struggling to figure out how to proceed to the next objective, or if the other player knew, I found it difficult to communicate what needed doing.

I played Journey back when it came out and really enjoyed it, I remember playing it through in a single sitting I was so enthralled.

I've played a few walking simulator games over the years like Firewatch, Gone Home and Call of the Sea but never found any as memorable as Journey. More recently I found Sable to be evocative of Journey in some ways, although it has more gameplay features to it than Journey.

I vaguely recall a game I played that felt similar to Journey at the time, pretty sure you could fly and went around unlocking temples or some such, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it. Trying to google it just brings up Starfield :cardie: I'll have to do some further research.

There's Sky: Children of the Light and Flower from the same developer as Journey but I haven't played either of them so can't tell you if they offer the same experience although they appear to be similar in many ways.

You've inspired me to install ABZU, a game often mentioned in the same breath as Journey. I own it but never played it so I reckon I'll give it a go.

I LOVE FLOWER: I played that to death on ps4, and later on PC. The same company made a game called Flow but that's never made it to PC.

I have Sable for for whatever reason I can't bring myself to commit to that one much. So I am playing it in parts here and there. Maybe it's the animation style or whatever it just doesn't grab me as much as Journey did.

Ooh another good game to get is Abzu where you are a little android swimming underwater.

Ended up finishing ABZU in a single sitting as well, really enjoyed it. The music makes a big difference in games like this, beautiful stuff :)

I loved Abzu, more than Journey.

For whatever reason, I felt that game had a terrible framerate. In some ways, its large open world is a detriment as it's pretty much devoid of anything until you get to the next settlement.
