Q's fate

The only novel I know of which featured another Continuum named after a letter was I, Q, which was written by John de Lancie with Peter David. In that there was an M Continuum, long time rivals of the Q ...

I thought the Q continuum and M continuum worked together in the MI6 continuum with the 00 continuum.

Maybe the Q achieved their goal. What that goal is, who knows. That's why they were active in that era, because they were coming to an end and so our Q was taking an interest in species that he saw "himself" in and that in a billion years, maybe humanity have those kind of powers. Then disappeared from the galaxy.

Here's a thought:

Just because Q assumed he was dying, doesn't mean he actually was.

This could all have been a plot by the Continuum to teach him a lesson. Gradually sap him of his powers, make him believe the end was coming, and maybe he'll learn a few things.

Perhaps he is in Purgatory, learning not to go around abusing Gifts from the Almighty for his own pleasure. ;)

This reminds me of a bit in one of the novels - can't remember which one - where Picard says to Q "So you're no longer claiming to be God, just saying that you know Him."

And Q replies, with a completely straight face, "He's a tough fellow to know, in the strictest sense..." Q is so utterly matter-of-fact and serious that even Picard starts to get chills.

Totally agree with this.

John DeLancie's Q has died. He was the one infatuated with humans and Picard in particular. So we could encounter other Q, but the story for this one is over. And it doesn't violate any canon.

Agreed. Perhaps only Q was the only one interested in humans. Maybe he did die, and the reason The Continuum hasn't been heard from in the 25th and 26th century is because they simply lost interest.
Or perhaps Q was guiding humanity to become the Q. Maybe???

Probably. What would interest them?
Maybe Q are waiting for writers to come up with new and exciting storylines for them to take part in? The Q might be in hibernation skipping ‘an era’, *if* indeed the Q have not imploded back in on q-selves resulting in a big crush of the Continuum of course… in which case Q no longer exists. Perhaps Q actually live a cyclic existence, which means that Q might have emerged in another form of existence via a new ‘big bang’… perhaps Q collapsed in to more of a ‘wormhole’ in ‘end days’ rather than an epic all consuming event horizon type thing. Q might be expanding outwards again in a new plain of existence, form and consciousness. Q could have ‘ascended’… or ‘descended’ in to nothing, one or the other.

They are now the P, possibly even O.

Or perhaps they have already been P and O? They would logically be ‘R’ next in your theory. Unless they can ‘degenerate’ back in to previous forms of the Continuum? Nothing has to be linear… even natural ‘evolution’ and energy transmutations. :D

Perhaps they are delta?

Perhaps Q will one day even transcend alphanumerical or symbolic designations for q-selves?
Save for when they interact with lower life forms.
They're outside of time so I also think this is a false dichotomy.

My question is more what interests them at all? I think of the Ancients from SG1 who largely were apathetic towards lower beings unless it impacted their realm.

Never seen SG1 so I can’t comment on the comparrison.

Perhaps Q and humanity/galactic life in general run side by side? Maybe our galaxy is a petri dish for the omnipotent? Or perhaps one day all life ascends in to Q like consciousness and form? Q might have been guiding humanity by influencing certain key figures throughout it’s history such as Picard? What was the point of the Q trial? Whimsical fun? Or was humanity in particular being tested as a part of a much larger ‘master plan’. Perhaps Q knew that humanity would one day fill the void that it would leave behind at the end of it’s being. If Q demised prematurely, perhaps the ‘guides’ to help shepherd this ascension have now gone? Unless other ‘entities’ can fill the gap… Travellers, Metrons etc? There is obviously a whole new plain of existence beyond human existence and comprehension in the Star Trek universe so perhaps it has many gatekeepers. Some gatekeepers can be good, and some could be bad…

It wouldn't really matter if they were outside of time. If only 1 Q was interested in humanity enough to interact/interfere with them, then the rest weren't interested and ignored humanity.

Perhaps the Q became part of the Nexus, and only left behind an echo of its' former life???

I love the Hitchhikers Guide.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

*Today’s fish is trout a la creme…”

Is anyone a fan of Red Dwarf? I have a thread called All things Red Dwarf.
