NHL 2008-2009 Discussion!

I get the feeling it's not the best team that will win the Cup; it'll be whichever team happens to be peaking at playoff time. Could be the Pens year!

It's often like that. Only 7 President's Trophy winners have won the Cup since the inception of the President's Trophy in 1986.

I hope the Islanders keep winning and Colorado trots out 5 guys named Fred and a goalie each night so they can have the best shot in the Tavares sweepstakes. Injuries have been brutal to the Avs this year, but they still don't have a true #1 goalie.

Since 2006, the Flames have had finished off the regular season with mediocre performances and have made embarrassing first round exits in the playoffs during those years. :vulcan:

^ Doesn't look like you'll be doing anything differently this year!

If you guys get Columbus, watch out.

In other news, Canucks could take the division lead tonight if they beat the Wild. We were 11 points back of the Flames over a month ago

Yeah, things can definitely change quite a bit in a couple of months.

Though I have to admit I think I'd actually prefer it if the Canucks played the Blackhawks in the first round (as opposed to Columbus or Nashville).

But honestly, if my 16-win plan is gonna work out, it doesn't really matter who they play. ;)

At least the Blue Jackets righted their ship last night, after looking so pathetic against the Blues earlier. :scream:

Even when a team is playing well they're bound to have a bad game every once in a while (like the Canucks against the Kings and the Quacks a little while back).

Oh, I realize that. However, I still count the OT loss against St. Louis to be one that they let slip away more or less. They got the one point, but they should have had two

So every single sports show on TV, the radio, internet, whatever; and everyone I talk to keeps going on about MacT's brutal illegal stick accusation last night against Anaheim that stalled the momentum the Oilers had going towards the end of the game.

Don't get me wrong, it was a terrible call; but I don't see ANYONE talking about why the Oilers were in a comeback position in the first place. Why couldn't the Oilers muster any offense for the entire fucking game? Why did they only decide to show up for the first 10 minutes of the 1st, and then the last 5 minutes of the 3rd? Why did they figure they could coast after taking the 1-0 lead? Why was ZACH STORTINI our best player out there? Where was Hemsky, Horcoff, Gagner, etc??

And make no mistake, if Selanne's stick had been deemed illegal, people would have been calling MacT a fucking GENIOUS.

Good game last night. Never thought I'd be rooting for the Oil.... and last night was no exception.

I'm soooo glad Avery's back in the NHL. Thomas was so understanding about it that I almost felt his comments were satirical. How can Avery not know that punching a goalie in the back of the ehad might be crossing a line?

I joined the "Anyone But the Rangers" club when he came back, and I feel all the better about that today. I can't believe that I'm suggesting that Pronger and the Ducks would even be a better alternative than seeing that jack-ass with a Cup ring, but at least Pronger brings a set of skills to the arena that have something to do with ice hockey.

Sidney Crosby actually got in a fight... and won! Loved seeing him stand up for his teammate like that, even if it came back to bite the Pens in the ass.

Correy Perry is a Punk, and so is Getzlaf.

Magic number now is 3 to clinch the west so that's good. Go Sabres.
