NFL 2021 season - Belichick Strikes Back

I'll be the first to admit that I don't really follow sports all that much. The last football game I watched all the way through was the Seahawks Superbowl win back in 2014, so my knowledge of the Russell Wilson situation is limited. Now, having said that, I did spend all day listening to the local sports radio station while out delivering and the 'no trade' clause in Russell's contract came up repeatedly with hosts, guests and callers. The fact that he waived the 'no trade' clause and the front office entertained offers from three teams in the last few weeks, indicates to me that the situation between Russell and the coaching staff deteriorated remarkably quickly following the end of the season. I think there is blame to go around on both sides. Pete Carroll and John Schneider didn't provide enough up-front protection these last few seasons; however, Russell is very limited mobility wise. He tends to stand in the pocket way too long, not scrambling when pressured by the defense allowing him to get sacked. Also, it was pointed out that Russell's skills seemed to be on the decline, even before breaking his middle finger early last season, with hosts saying that there was a drop off as early as the mid 2020-2021 season. Another point made was that Russell's contract is up in two years and he and his agent were more than likely going to want more than Aaron Rodgers got when he resigned with Green Bay earlier today, and that's what prompted Seattle to pull the trigger on the trade with Denver. They don't want to be saddled with a $50+ million contract for one player. The general consensus amongst the hosts was that Russell was going to be traded at the end of next season and that Pete and Russell were going to try for one more one to the playoffs/Superbowl.

Wilson, Mahomes, Herbert, and Carr. Heck of a division.

Yeah, as a Raiders fan, I would have prayed Wilson would have gone anywhere but to Denver. He’ll be their first star QB with winning SB credentials since Manning.

Our new DC’s job just got that much tougher.

Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner (and his $20 million cap hit) getting cut. No one's left from the Super Bowl team.

The NY Football Ginats may make a run for Trubisky mainly based on his one year under former Bills coach/current HC Brian Daboll.

Good luck with that and my condolences to any NY fans.

Trubisky has a ton of talent, it is just getting him into the right situation.

Worth a cheap flyer in a shallow QB pool.

Yeah, I have no doubt Nagy and company could have effed up even a great QB. But Tru has a lack of ability throwing a "touch" pass that led to a TON of overthrows, and that's not really about coaching but talent. His zip passes are very quick and usually dead-on.

Colts trade Carson Wentz to Washington for two third-round picks.

Ultimately, he was a one-year rental that we paid a first rounder for. Tough. Let’s see if we end up with Garoppolo or someone.

Shit. It's going to be another one of THOSE seasons. :wah:

I wonder why Washington thinks he is the answer with the Colts bailing after one season and paying a 1st round pick.

If WFT had been patient, they probably could have grabbed him after he’d been released.

I suspect that Dan Snyder thinks he's the answer. That's all that has mattered on that team for 20 years now, which is why they've sucked so hard for the same length of time. Most of the boneheaded decisions we've seen come out of Washington can be traced back to Snyder. He just can't leave shit alone, be just the owner, sit back, shut up, and suck on his bottle of Cristal. :(

Bears trade Khalil Mack to the Chargers for a second-round pick in 2022 and a 2023 sixth-round pick.

The Bolts will take on the rest of his contract. Lots of money for a fairly oft injured 31 year old, $64M. He was great for a while, but I don't see him getting back to that level.

Good luck to him tho, maybe getting back to the warm weather will help.

Chargers have righr idea. Start loading up on defense. Raiders need to throw some significant cash at the top free agent corners.

Interesting that the two players who were involved in that rather infamous trade spree the Raiders went on some years ago, have both been traded and (will likely be), released, respectively. This suggests to me that both Mack and Amari Cooper were traded by the Raiders at just about the right time. So, good on Gruden for that, at least.

Deshaun Watson has avoided criminal charges.

Per Rapoport: "Now that the criminal matters are over — and Deshaun Watson won’t be charged — expect his trade market to ramp up quickly. Teams have been waiting. This clears the path for a deal by the start of the league year."
