The Connie in the back looks like it could be an actual TOS 1701 type, but who knows if they'll show either of those two ships in anything but that display screen graphic.

Starbase 28 was a name familiar to me. In the first season, there was a discussion about the name of a Federation station. In the subtitles accompanying the overseas editions of the episode "Choose Your Pain", this station was id'ed as Starbase 28.

Which is nothing like the graphic we see of the starbase from the trailer.

Looking at the graphic and this picture, could the design of Starbase 28 be yet another example of flipping a station around, making it a totally new design, as happen with the orbital office complex from TMP which was flipped to make Regula One for TWOK.

I think, that may be some kind of attachment arm from the starbase ... ? ...

Either that or it's just the glow from the lighting on the nacelle.

Also, you can see that the rear nacelle pylon is angled.

The thing on the left of the ship would have to be whatever the extra part is, but it has the same glowing end as the actual LH nacelle. It could almost be a third nacelle in the center, but mounted lower and on the secondary hull.

I'm going with a dreadnought. The Franz Joseph DN did have the more bulbous top of the saucer that ship seems to have and wider set left and right nacelles. I can't explain why they wouldn't put a center nacelle on the saucer (© or ™ issues?).

Anybody else notice that the hood Pike is wearing comes off digitally with a little device she holds?

SO, after several viewings, I'm leaning toward either a Kobayashi Maru type of situation or perhaps that Pike is a phony.
(another Mudd deception??)

Since everything major that happens in the trailer, seems to be almost like it's a holographic image.
(the hood and the explosion, plus no real windows)

I'm leaning more toward the former rather than the latter.

(of course my track record for guesses sux so I'm probably wrong on both counts)

Yeah bottom of it seems to be the top of that one

Nothing in the first two shorts (and probably this one) ties to Discovery one bit, and they seemed to have abandoned the Discovery uniforms entirely.
The Admirals at the end of The Trouble with Edward are still wearing the Disco uniforms, though I suspect the reason why they're using the TOS-style uniforms so predominantly in these Short Treks is to justify the expense of making them, given how little they were seen in Disco season 2, they won't be in the third season, and there likely aren't any immediate plans for a Pike spin-off at the moment.

This short does look like a cadet going off the rails during a simulation. And going one better than Kirk by actually abducting the invigilator.

And will we see Pike manacled to a bulkhead with his top off in TOS fashion?

Maybe the entire incident is precipitated by an accidental overdose of cordrazine.

These Short Treks have been sometimes good, sometimes bad, but overall, I have enjoyed them a GREAT deal more than DIS itself.

I guess what I'm saying is, I'm an old fart, that wants stand-alone stories again, with different characters in focus every time, and only a looser connection through overarching character arcs.

The "one story devided into several chapters via episodes" works well enough for character based shows like GoT, Netflix stuff, and probably the new Star Wars series. But IMO for Trek I really like the more episodic approach.

I can respect your opinion but couldn't disagree more. I am so tired of episodic television where things feel like they don't matter from week to week. That's why I enjoy things like DSC or DS9 in terms of revisiting them is because I want to see how the story unfolds. I love TOS for the episodic story lines but characters keep me coming back, because the focus was often on two or three characters that I was invested in. Contrast with TNG where I was less invested in the characters.

You're so tired of episodic television? Outside of some remaining crime procedurals, it's hard to think of any episodic dramas which have been made in the last 10-15 years.

Episodic TV basically burned me out from when I first started noticing such things, about twenty years ago, or so. It's a little thing, but it adds up to a reminder of "Oh, this doesn't really matter" or "That character was important."

I'm not up to speed on the latest TV, largely because it doesn't appeal to me. And part of that is growing up with episodic things where it didn't matter.

DS9 really did a good job of balancing the Dominion War arc with standalone eps, but of course they had 22(?) episodes a year to work with.

DSC did OK in S2, albeit with a lot fewer episodes. Like many have stated, the arc kinda went off the rails, but I think it still came out allright.
