NBA Playoffs - 2009

Lakers win in overtime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kobe punches someone in the face and get's away with it. What a punk.

I do blame this loss on the Magic though. Play some damn defense in game 5 for crying out loud. Way to go leaving the most clutch three point shooter wide open not once, but TWICE. Congrats LA. I think this finals will be ending sooner rather than later.

Who knew you could punch people with an elbow?

Btw if you put your face in the normal movement space of an offensive player, it actually can be called a foul on the defending player. Mutumbo used to do this all the time, put his face in the offensive players swing area to try to draw a foul.

Holy Crap!

What a game. Back and forth. BIG swings throughout.

Derek Fisher? I LOVE that guy!!!

I believe the phrase you're looking for is Beat LA ;)
I've always thought that "Beat L.A." was the lamest chant in the entire history of chanting. GO LAKERS!!!

Well it has history. Back when the Sixers and the Celtics had a strong rivalry and absolutely hated each other (this year, it was Larry Bird Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish, Nate Tiny Archibold, etc, vs. Doctor J, Bobby Jones, Mo Cheeks, and Andrew Toney), they played in the Eastern Conference finals and the Sixers won. Boston fans, however, hated one team even more, the LA Lakers. So, as their team was about to lose, something odd happened. They put aside their differences to support the Sixers and shout Beat LA (and thus the chant was born).

Unfortunately, the year was 1982, so the cheer went to waste (this was the year Magic jumped center and won the series, iirc). The year after, however, the 76ers and Lakers again faced off and this time the Sixers swept them (so I guess it worked out in the end).

EDIT: I'll throw a video in while I'm at it link

And as a Lakers' fan, this is the reason I so love the Beat LA chant, it reminds me of...victory. Also, no other franchise in the NBA has it's own customized chant among the enemy.

We'll be sipping champagne on either Sunday or Tuesday.

Love ya Fish, Trev, Pau, Kobe, Lamar.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!!!

YOUR WORLD CHAMPION LOS ANGELES LAKERS!!!!!

Congratulations. Well deserved, even though the finals ended up being a bit anti-climatic. Oh well. At least the NBA Season is over.

The truth is that before tonight, the Lakers were two shots away from being down 1-3. Game 1 and Game 5 were brilliant. Games 2,3,and 4 were pretty much even. The Lakers got the good bounces.

I agree with you about Games 2 and 3, but Game 4 was a great example of an Orlando Magic choke job. It was almost that point where they just handed LA the championship because they didn't look like they recovered from that all night long.

What a difference a year makes. This time last year was total pain hearing how the Lakers were soft and couldn't handle the pressure. This team fought all the way back to the Finals and won, enduring injury, and doubt from all sides all during the season. Congrats for setting their sights on the prize and not looking up until they'd attained it.

Special congrats to the (real) MVP, Kobe, on his 4th ring and first Finals MVP trophy.

"Teams of the Decade" - L.A. Lakers

This feels great. That was a long 7 year wait for another championship. Congrats to the Lakers, Kobe & Phil Jackson.

Yeah, but conversely the Lakers could have won this series in 4. The only game Magic won required an NBA record 63% shooting and some unusual free throw misses by Kobe.
