Naveen Andrews (from JJ's Lost) as KHAN

Indian Emperor from the movie 'Kama Sutra' - nuff said.

He would make a good Khan. The actor can play intense which is something you need from the Khan character.

Yeah, I would prefer to have a new science fiction story, but if they insist on Khan, Naveen is such an obvious choice :)

I think Andrews definitely has the chops to pull it off, but if Abrams, Lindelof, and Orci/Kurtzman want to do Khan for ST2, Paramount might insist that they go for a "big name" actor.

I don't know if I could ever take him seriously after watching him walk around with a big bag of severed testicles in "Planet Terror". I must be the only person on the planet who knows him from that instead of "Lost", which I have never watched.

He has the pecs, but as I said somewhere else, I wish the writers and JJ stay as far from Khan as possible.
Bring something new, something fresh. The retelling of some Trek aspects can be interesting but in the long, long, long, long distance. Not now. For the first time Star Trek has ditched the reset button option. And it feels good.

The question is how would Andrews protrayal of Khan, alter the character? I could see this Khan having more ninja type moves in a fight, since we have seen Sayid have those type of fights on "Lost."I also think he wouldn't over-top like Montabaum, instead would not let his anger get the best of him, even though it would always be there. Granted this would be helped by the fact that this Khan would have different motivations for his actions since he wouldn't be angry over Kirk killing his beloved wife or stranding him on planet.

If it must be Khan, then yes, Andrews is perfect.

But I still say: NO KHAN!

:)

Yep, I've been touting him for the role for a while now. He has a kind of quiet magnetism and leadership potential that I think would make for a more convincing Khan than Montelban's hammy, over-the-top portrayal. Would superintelligent people really follow that overacting clown?

Considering they make up approximately one sixth of the world population, South Asians have been horribly underrepresented in Star Trek's supposedly diverse utopian future. Not a single major, or even recurring character for that matter, has been portrayed by a South Asian actor as far as I know. It would be interesting if Khan were actually played by one.

I don't wanna see Khan in any Trek sequels either, but if it has to be done, Andrews would probably be a fine choice.

I recall someone elsewhere suggesting Javier Bardem for Khan as well, and the more I think about it, the more I like that idea... but I still don't want Khan in the sequels. ;)

Its true - yet Star Trek is better than most TV shows of the era - Gene Roddenbury had an Indian friend during WW2, so he named Khan Noonien Singh after that guy - Kim Noonien Singh - and there were a few Indian (or supposedly Indian) background actors in some cases.

There were two people called Lieutenant Singh in Star Trek - one serving on the original Enterprise, and one on the Enterprise D - probably again references to Roddenbury's friend. Captain Joel Randolph of the USS Yorktown in Star Trek IV, was played by Vijay Amritaj, an Indian tennis player.

Enterprise was the worst of course, for diversity.

I too want them to stay away from Khan so they can do other stuff, but it would be nice if they actually got an Indian actor to play him this time around.

Yeah, he seems to be the popular fandom choice- he could certainly carry the role.

Though, Javier Bardem would be more Montalban-esque.

There's no need for Khan 2.0, but if Andrews was cast, and he broke someome's neck with his thighs, all would be immediately forgiven.

I'd agree that both Andrews and Bardem would be fantastic as Khan. But I also agree that they shuldn't do Khan, he's been done.
