Natural and Alien/Man Made Disasters in Star Trek

Gabriel Bell

Ensign

I thought this would be a great topic to discuss here.
I was talking with a friend and we were trying to come up with ALL the disasters natural or otherwise in Star Trek. With 50 years of material you think there'd be a lot but we couldn't come up with much. I'm talking across all of the shows and films (if you know of any in TrekLIT feel free to add).
So far I came up with:

Praxis exploding (STVI)
Soran destroying Stars (ST Generations)
Romulus star going nova (ST 2009 reboot)
Vulcan being destroyed (ST 2009 reboot)

In 50 years there's gotta be more that this right? Right? What do you guys think?

The Omega Particle explosion mentioned in Voyager that damaged subspace across a large region, preventing warp travel.

The Genesis Planet.

The anti-warp rift in TNG's Force of Nature ep.

Okay now I just feel silly, how could I forget Genesis?!!
The Omega particle and the anti-warp! I haven't seen those episodes in ages (probably why I didn't think of them). Very nice!

Any Borg attack. They completely destroyed the El-Aurian home system and the New Providence colony plus countless other worlds.

"Operation--Annihilate!" The neural parasites wiped out entire planetary populations.

"Conscience of the King." A fungus wipes out the crops on Tarsus IV, causing mass starvation.

"All Our Yesterdays." Sarpeidon is destroyed by a supernova, forcing its population to flee into the planet's past.

"The Doomsday Machine." 'Nuff said.

The 23rd century was a dangerous place!

In TNG's The Survivors, the Husnock killed 11,000 colonists on Delta Rana IV.

In turn, the all-powerful being left killed all Husnock everywhere in the universe, wiping out their species.

And of course Annorax of the Crenim Imperium... Although upon the destruction of his weapon, things were undone, we see him doing the same calculations that caused the erasures witnessed during VOY Year of Hell.. it is safe to say history, "repeated" itself.

The Suliban killed everyone on Paraagan II and framed Enterprise for it in Shockwave.

If we're not just talking about disasters on a global scale then I'd also put forward the Xindi's weapon devastating parts of Florida, Cuba and Venezuela in 'The Expanse' and the deaths of seven million people including Trip's sister Elizabeth.

Not to mention "The Alternative Factor"--The entire universe blinks out of existence (and somehow Starfleet is able to determine that)!

The Phage would be a natural disaster as well, if one were to include an epidemic as one. The Vidiians would argue it is one of the worst..

And the giant space amoeba - that took out a couple of star systems as well as the USS Intrepid, IIRC.

The M-5 computer test took out several Constitution-Class ships.

And if we look further back, the Trek universe is littered with dead civilizations that are long gone before Starfleet stumbles onto their remnants.

See "That Which Survives," "For the World is Hollow . . .," "The Lights of Zetar," "Return to Tomorrow," "What are Little Girls Made Of?," and the afore-mentioned Iconians . . .. .
