Move Along Home - Unfairly derided?

I liked it at the time, but on a recent rewatch I couldn't get through it. That being said, I don't find it any worse than other season 1 clunkers like "Dax" or "Dramatis Personae" or (UUUGGGGHHHHHHH) "The Storyteller."

But DS9 pretty much always has something redeeming, and one thing I really like about "Move Along Home" are the scenes with Odo and Primmin -- never seen or heard from again after this!

I've always been totally fine with Move Along Home. That's not to say I love it of course, but I never got the intensity of the hate.

DS9's first season has some episodes that feel like left-over TNG, but Move Along Home feels like it could just as easily be a TOS ep to me.

Yep, it's so TOS. But also really not a bad concept - just executed with WAY too much silliness.

Always liked the episode myself. So yeah, it's nice to get a more positive perspective on it. It has a surreal quality to it, which I'm always fond of. Same reason why I enjoy similarly “out there” episodes like “Frame of Mind” and “The Thaw”.

On a rewatch a few years back I discovered that for me the first season of Deep Space Nine is much stronger than I remembered. Sure, nostalgia plays a big part in it, but in general I was struck by how much of what makes the show great is already present in those early episode. All the character interplay works really well and even in the most mediocre season one episode you can bet on there being at least one great Odo/Quark, O'Brien/Bashir or Kira/Odo moment. It also helps that I'm a big fan of the Bajoran storyline, which always seems to loom in the background.

This!
And people often think of DS9 as growing into its serialisation, which sure, in many ways it does, but honestly there is a consistent thread in the Bajoran plot from day one and I love that story too.
Season 1 may have its echoes of TNG; there were definitely some 'leftover unused stories' going on. But overall I feel the characters are still great straight away (perhaps less so Sisko, who really does grow into his character) and there are some real gem episodes. O'Brien, Kira, (for me) Bashir, Quark and Odo are all great from day one.

Sisko has a line in the episode where he wishes a Captain McCullough (an expert on first contacts or something) was there instead of him - I'm surprised he didn't want the Wadi to be bothering Picard instead...

I liked the Wadi. Quark is good in this. I liked the whole "it's just a game" conclusion (a device that can only really be used once in the series run mind you). There's cringeworthy moments, dancin' n' singin' and all that kinda facepalmin' stuff.

But on the whole, I quite like it. It has something of the TOS touch to it too.

I enjoy the episode. I think it has a great premise, unfortunately it suffers from poor execution. They could have done so much better on the puzzles. Play hopscotch to pass a forcefield? They can do so much better.

Okay the concept was fine-I didn't like Jake at the beginning having the girl talk that was grating.

Quark's begging was funny I'll admit.

I honestly like If Wishes Were Horses better if for nothing else but Bashir's fantasy Dax.

I really like this episode!

It is a bit spooky and mysterious. It also has a lot of exciting moments, after all we don't know if our heroes are at risk to be killed of or how they can come out of the danger unharmed.
The twist in the tale at the end is also very good.
Not to mention that Falow looks like a friend of mine! :bolian:
Definitely one of my favorite DS9 episodes.

I really disliked this episode simply because when I first watched DS9 my friend hyped it up as one of the best of the early season episodes which it really wasn't so the whole time I was like 'are you serious? this is the best the show has to offer?' however I have only seen it once and I imagine on rewatch I would enjoy it more

I enjoy this episode. It has always seemed to me that what people judge it on is that little bit when they do the skipping. Other than that I think it's pretty good. I find the ending funny when it's revealed that they were never in any real danger since it was just a game.

I think we all look for different things, and some of us look for different things at different times (recent viewing vs. years ago). But for those who want any episode or category to "go away" I always think "yeah, what if they went away but were never replaced with anything else?" I'd rather skip them on re-viewing rather than lose any of them.
