YouTube randomly suggested a high school championship video to me where the catcher drops the ball on strike three, the batter takes off for first, the catcher looks like he's going to throw to first but starts celebrating with his team instead and puts the ball in his pocket. Meanwhile, runner on base scores, then the batter scores and just like that the team that's celebrating loses. And the whole time, the second baseman is trying to cover all the bases and then runs home trying to find the ball.

Catcher should find himself a nice place on the bench.

The Classic Baseball Eras Committee Hall of Fame Ballot will consist of Dick Allen, Ken Boyer, Dave Parker, Luis Tiant, Steve Garvey, Tommy John, John Donaldson and Vic Harris.

There are a lot of these committees. While it's important to look into players who have been overlooked, something about only needing a few votes to get in this way after not getting enough votes through the traditional way bugs me. Not that the traditional way is great with how many biases the sports writers have and all the stupid hills they're willing to die on to not vote for Rickey Henderson, Greg Maddux or Ken Griffey Jr.

 Pretty sure all three of those guys are in the Hall, and they got in the traditional way, and on the first ballot.

Mariano Rivera is the first unanimous hall of famer. Otherwise these curmudgeons withhold their vote because "you're not a first ballot hall of famer" or "Lou Gehrig wasn't voted in unanimously so you're not getting in unanimously either" or "you're an obvious hall of famer so I'm voting for Mitch Williams instead." Before Rivera, the player with the highest percentage of votes was..... Tom Seaver.

Oh, you're talking about individual curmudgeons in the BBWAA. I thought you were talking about stuff like the decision to intentionally slow walk guys from the steroid era like Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, Clemens, and A-Rod until they've run out of ballots and have to wait for the Veterans Committee to select them.

Kyle Hendricks signs with the Angels. It's a small one-year deal and he's not very good, but the news here is that he was the last remaining player from the Cubs World Series team still with the Cubs until now.

Kyle really should have retired. He ruined his rep enough in the last couple years.
