Mid-season Trailer

What was suspicious about the Trill ensign?
It's not sure of course, but there is some reason to believe that
the Trill ensign (named Asencia?) may be a Vau N'akat in disguise, as the existence of such a character was part of a rumour/leak that has since been proven right about other characters that weren't public yet).
To be clear, the rumour did not explicitely say that the Trill ensign and the Vau N'akat ensign are the same person, but as seemingly the only prominently featured one it may be her

Ok. First I’ve heard of that.

Interesting they are getting Jellico back. I assume he's been softened in his old age.

I wouldn't bet too much on it given how Trek tends to ping on nostalgia... but it WOULD be an interesting change in his character. After all, it would show growth and change... and Prodigy is pretty good at giving us good change and a sense of technological and personal progression that some other shows seemingly lack.

The producers explained he is a Lieutenant Junior Grade alone on a station, serving as the provisional station manager.

It seems almost nobody on current Trek knows how uniforms and ranks work. On DIS you need 4k publicity shots to know what rank a person has, the costume designer of PIC posted a totally bonkers rank chart for her show, more than half of the main cast of SNW wore incorrect sleeve stripes, and there's no uniformity between LD, PRO and PIC flashbacks.

They're following the Star Trek: Generations school of thought where everyone was free to choose between TNG uniforms and DS9/VOY uniforms. No sort of consistency at all.

My guess is that the producers would like each show to have its own recognizable uniform.

And sometimes it seems to have a different uniform for every season. :) I would've prefered a different approach if we are meant to believe all shows are in the same continuity.

At 0:48 in the trailer, we see Rok through an onscreen interface of some sort. I wonder if Janeway (the flesh and blood one) and co have managed to tap into a feed to get a view of just who is on board the Protostar.

Apparently, there is some more news from the recent panel (where the trailer was shown): https://www.dailystartreknews.com/r...-origin-and-more-legacy-characters-on-the-way
We will also see Romulans and Klingons in the coming episodes.

Regarding Dal's origins, apparently we'll get a revelation but there may be more questions than answers.

edit: also, at 0:47 (with the TOS clones in green), we can see what I think is a statue of a Starfleet officer (in red) at the far end. Points to cultural contamination.

It's not that Jellico is an evil or mad character, but he is rather abrasive (or was, but I doubt that's changed) and I can see him taking a strict attitude regarding the Protostar and how to deal with it. The ship is an experimental, extremely fast and highly advanced prototype and it could be disastrous for Starfleet if it fell into the wrong hands (and "some kids we don't know have it" is probably not reassuring for someone like Jellico). That's before they learn (if they do) that there is some kind of doomsday weapon onboard, that could destroy Starfleet. Someone like Jellico may consider "the needs of the many" and give the order to destroy it in order to extinguish any chance of that weapon being put to use.

Since Jellico seems to outrank Janeway (4 pips vs 3), I think he may be the hardliner once Janeway starts to soften, and possibly the reason that the kids still won't join Starfleet in season 2 (or much of it). Which in turn I think is a must, as the show would have to change dramatically if the kids actually got asylum in the Federation. No more flying around in experimental prototypes.

A 24th century Denobulan.

Denobulans lend themselves to be in a kids-oriented Trek show. Phlox and his people exhibited funny alien quirks, like the wide smile and the long tongue. There's room for amusing antics. For a more serious exploration, the peacemaking process between Denobulans and Antarans could serve as an object lesson to the Protostar kids - if not in a show, perhaps in a comic/novel/game.

I think it’s partially because they are all set in different years. Lower Decks has shown that California class ships have their own uniforms that exist concurrently with the First Contact style uniforms — a tradition that extends back to VOY and DS9. Similarly, the Prodigy producers have said that as they get closer to 2385, their uniforms will start appearing alongside the PIC flashback uniforms.

Not t to mention Voyager where even after they’ve seen the new uniforms they still keep their old ones.

My guess is that the producers would like each show to have its own recognizable uniform.
Probably. Not like Trek hasn't done it before.

And the first time any of them were seen outside DS9 were in the "Birthright" two-parter and "Firstborn" in TNG and then in GEN. They didn't exactly plaster the DS9 jumpsuits all over the rest of the franchise for the first two years of the new series' existence.

Jellico's supposed abrasiveness was really more of him making our favorite characters unhappy. Especially Riker, who was openly insubordinate. When I rewatched those episodes, Jellico seemed like a captain with a different style, but one who was competent and amiable.
