McCoy, Leonard H....

The admittedly non-canon 2007 novel Provenance of Shadows lists McCoy's middle name as "Horatio."

Hey! Maybe we should start a poll...

Harold...nobody remembers who lost in 1066
Henry...we named the dog Indiana
Haman...that's why we celebrate Purim
Hiram...General Grant's original middle name
Holmes...Sherlock or Katie?
Harry...no chance at the throne...barring a miracle
Hale...I regret I have but one name to give to the future
Hayes...Isaac, Helen, Rutherford, and Woody
Humphrey...here's looking at you
Homer...Doh!

Going back to his father's name for a moment... I could swear that it was confirmed as "David" in Star Trek V: TFF.

That name starts with a "G", not an "H".

It's funnier with the H. ;)

And we're talking 23rd C, why can't name spellings migrate over time? 20 years ago, you wouldn't have seen people naming their kids nonsense like "Krystyl" and "Jacen."

They didn't need to confirm it. McCoy said his father's name was David in ST III.

But - in the closing credits of ST V, IIRC:
Bill Quinn ... David McCoy

McCoy tells T'Lar in ST III that he is "McCoy, Leonard H., son of David." Hence, his father's name is David. Then, in ST V, we "meet" dying David McCoy in Sybok's enforced flashback for Leonard McCoy.

I did not know Mccoy's MIDDLE name was Horatio. Was it really?

I think I remember reading somewhere that Gene Roddenberry did enjoy Horatio Hornblower Novels as a kid and he based alot of trek on that type of adventure novel. I was not aware that he actually put it for one of his characters.

So what is the first name for Spock anyway? I know it is unpronouncable. I remember those episodes where he said that too... :)

It almost makes you wish to hear Shatner's voice off camera whispering:

"Bulls*** Spock, your first name is CARL!"

Seriously though -- A piece of trivia.

There is another episodes where he actually says that his first name is unpronouncable, and surprisingly enough it is when he is making some moves on a broad. (Ohhh Kirk's BAD influence)

This side of Paradise. (true) I remember that one.

But it was also in the Episode: The Enterprise Incident He mentioned that to the Romulen Commander he was making moves on. - GASP! (just some friendly trivia there)

"Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor??" - Spock (Leornard Nimoy)

I thought that would be something cool to share.

Afterthought for Kirk's middle name too.

I think in the first book (the pocketbook Novel for the Star trek Motion Picture Movie), there is a preface and it explains who, how and why he was named "Tiberius" for his middle name.

I am not sure on that but its something to look up.
