News Matthew Rhys to Play Perry Mason in HBO Limited Series

I see what you did there.

Although really, Perry Mason rarely had to contend with a jury, as he usually solved the case in the preliminary hearing.
Older Perry. Here he's just a PI........and a troubled WWI vet.

I'm loving it. The last two episodes really clicked together and we finally understand what the showrunners have been working towards.

Plus, the show has been renewed, so we'll get to see more of the core actors grow into these roles.

Hubby and I have been watching and both of us really enjoy it. I'm glad it got renewed!

I’ve just watched episode one and am underwhelmed so far. I always like Matthew Rhys and I’m a sucker for noir stuff but this was hard to follow and the dialogue didn’t grip me. Does it get any better?

Thanks for the feedback folks. I’ll give it a go, though my wife has a much lower threshold in that regard than I do!
Seriously, if you like Matthew Rhys, it's so worth it. I only heard about it because of him.
There was an emotional scene in episode 6, and he nailed it.

There are some complaints that this is not like the Perry Mason people are used to, but it's early days. He will grow into the man we know. That's the point of this show.

Episode 1 indeed left a lot of questions but from episode 2 on it all becomes a bit clearer, who is who. Although we still have no idea who did what and why, so many threads running, but it's all so breathtaking. Lots of great actors on board, I also enjoy Chris Chalk very much who I had seen in "Gotham" before. He is also very intense.

I had planned to wait until it all aired and then binge but now I am hooked and can't wait for the new episode. It also helps me reading the after episode discussions on Reddit to understand better what is going on. You certainly need to pay attention to all the small details. But it's so rewarding!

I just finish Man in the High Castle last week..........I can't get away from him AND I LIKE IT!
I've been a huge fan of his since Spin City (although technically my fandom reaches all the way back to "Unification, Part One" but I didn't realize it at the time).

How is the new Perry Mason? Did they stick with the 'Convince people to break down and confess on the stand' thing or give more realism to the process?

Pretty gritty and dark so far........but good. Just getting into the courtroom now.

I went back and watched the first episode from 1957 on CBSAA the other night.......THAT was a hoot.

Episode 7 really set up the finale well...........and quite a WTF moment.

If you mean the coffin, then I definitely saw that coming.

Damn, only one episode left? I thought for certain there were ten episodes, especially since it doesn't feel like a season that's about to end. It feels like it needs at least a couple of more episodes to come to a natural, breathable conclusion.
