"A lot of women have played Storm and they’ve done an exceptional job..."

Interesting. The only live-action Storms to date have been Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp, so it seems Monae must also be including the animation voice actresses such as Iona Morris, Alison Sealy-Smith, Kirsten Williamson, Susan Dalian, Cree Summer, Jill Scott, and Danielle Nicolet. Nice to see some acknowledgment for voice talent.

(Honestly, I wouldn't say that either Berry or Shipp did an exceptional job, though in the latter case she didn't really get much chance to show her stuff.)

I would definitely but OK with Storm in a Black Panther movie, they were married so it would make sense to include her at some point. Bringing her into Black Panther could be a nice way to ease mutants into the MCU.

You know, considering Anthony Mackie's recent criticisms of the MCU, I think putting Storm into Black Panther would have some of the same problems. It seems incredibly... obvious for her introduction, and not in a good way. But then, her whole marriage with Black Panther seemed that way in the comics too. Maybe at some point but not initially.

Janelle Monae would be great though.

I'm on board with Monae playing Storm, but I've always felt like Storm and T'Challa's marriage was more about the writers involved going "Hey, they're both from Africa, of course they'd get together!"

I've had the same thought, and it's certainly true that American media has an unfortunate tendency to treat all of Africa (the world's second-largest and most politically and culturally diverse continent) as if it were just one small place. But on the other hand, there is more to it than that, because they're not only both African, they're both royalty. So that makes it a lot less random that they'd end up marrying, since that's pretty much the job of royal people, to marry other royal people for the sake of political alliances and such.

That's a good point and I didn't think about that earlier.

I highly expect that someone of Storm's caliber (and if they do cast her, Monáe's too) that she would appear in multiple films across the spectrum and not just within the Black Panther line of films. I agree that perhaps she shouldn't introduced there and instead eventually show up in that particular series of films later. That seems even likely considering the introduction of mutants is much further down the road and Black Panther 2 is scheduled (COVID-19 pending) for May 2022.

I'd rather they develop the relationship established with Nakia before adding Storm into the mix out of the blue. Save Storm for the X-Men.

I don't know that I've ever seen her in an acting role but Jenelle Monae doesn't really seem like *Storm* to me. I picture more of a Jodie Turner-Smith type but Hugh Jackman worked well despite being a different body type so maybe her 5' self would surprise me. In interviews, she's always so quiet and composed, is there a good role to see the fire?

I read an article that says Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Mandalorian among others) not only has an interest in appearing in a Marvel film, but he feels like the prospect is likely, given the Disney connection.

And now all I can think about is how perfect Esposito would be for Doctor Doom.

She has an upcoming movie Antebellum that was delayed to to the pandemic

Yeeeeessss! That would be incredible.

More Giancarlo Esposito in anything is fantastic. But him as Doom? Yes, please!

He's already playing Lex Luthor on Harley Quinn. They're kind of the same character, aren't they? Incredibly brilliant scientist who could do great things for the world if not for his all-consuming egomania and resentment toward his superheroic nemesis.

I guess I'm really out of touch with these choices, I like Esposito but I don't really get "Doom" from him but then I don't really get "Storm" from Jenelle Monae.

All of the fan speculation online that I've read (just fan theories, nothing at all more than that) was that he'd probably end up being either Professor X or Magneto as they slowly build up the X-universe by slowly introducing the characters as smaller roles of different upcoming movies (Storm in "Black Panther", Hank McCoy in "S.W.O.R.D", etc).

And I think he'd absolutely rock it as Professor X. I'd rather see him as one of the good guys this time out, too.

Not seeing him as Doom. Esposito projects a calm calculating menace in many roles. Doom is more of an in your face type.
