Lower Decks Trailer Analysis

The background ships there are just flipped versions of each other lol. Not a complaint, just an observation.

They look like they're both California classes (like the Cerritos), so maybe it's just a joke or an acknowledgment that there's no "up in space" for the ship on the right to be coming in flipped the opposite way. Perhaps Douglas Station is a way point for Second Contact vessels (California classes and other yet-to-be seen shipe)

It's pretty amazing. For a show that I felt might get a couple of million views and moderate interest (with some positive media reaction, though nothing really special) Lower Decks interest has been astounding. The 2 main source videos are almost at 30 million views now and still climbing.

What caused this? Was it the Rick and Morty team or style? Was it the fact that more realistic animation like the Godzilla anime and such tends to bomb while "Adult" style cartoonish animation tends to be really popular right now?

The backgrounds of the show..the ship "sets" and exterior shots give me a sense of deja vu for TNG. That has me more interested than anything, though the voice actors all seem pretty enthusiastic too.

Maybe it's just that the world is going crazy, and Star Trek always was it's best at showcasing an optimistic future, which people really want to see right now. So, Lower Decks is primed to be an online sleeper hit.

Wouldn't it be crazy if this is the most successful program to come out of CBS All-Access?

Again I should reiterate that while I have a lot of the same criticisms of "Kurtzman Trek" as others, I just don't see how any of these will translate into Lower Decks.

People didn't like the dour tone of Discovery/Picard? Well, this show certainly seems lighthearted.

People didn't like the "visual reboot" aspect of the new shows? This looks painfully Berman Era in terms of ship design.

People don't like the serialized arcs which invariably fizzle out in the final act? Well, this show is episodic.

People don't like the funky camera work, quick cuts, and heavy use of background music? I haven't noticed any of that in the footage we have seen.

And alien, costume, prop design, and sound effects! So far the only inconsistency is the commbadge, but that could be a simplification for animation purposes.

Even though it is playing into the TNG nostalgia, I hope we see some new ship designs for existing species, and also new ships for new species

Good post, I'm curious and interested to watch Lower Decks. I just wish the main lead wasn't so annoying, at least in that opening scene or the "blast shields" bit, basically the two extended bits we've seen her in.

I won't feel good watching the show until I learn Doomcock's opinion on the subject.

I'm more into the No Bullshit guy. Always choose the guy with a cow head over a one with a helmet in terms of getting your most best Star Trek episode commentary.

Personally the only reviewer I watch now is SF Debris. Who apparently just started Picard, nice.

I don’t watch any reviews. I’m perfectly capable of judging the shows for myself.
I watch the reviews after I've finished the product and judged them myself, so they don't influence me beforehand.

I like hearing other people's view points. Compare and contrast to my own.

And SF Debris puts humour and jokes in his reviews, they're not just talking at you.

"Oh number one, it's been hard since Q turned you into a dog"

I mean it pretty is the opposite of what we have had so far in this era of Trek. I'm hard pressed to imagine it will be more of the same. So, yeah, I don't see these criticism being appropriate either.

the complaints I see so far from the people who disliked DSC and Picard, is that it's childish and a cartoon. That starfleet characters would never act like that.
