1) For a little while I was convinced they were really going with the "The Island is Hell" story. Now, it seems, the Island is a bottle of wine...full of EVIL!

Jacob actually says that the Island represents the "cork" in his wine bottle analogy. Not the bottle.

Yeah, and that seems like a small difference, but I'd argue it's an important one. Basically, what we see of the man in black is simply the "tip" of what he could be. Only a small portion of him is on the cork, the rest would be in the rest of the bottle. What we've seen him do is only a small part of what he is.

Unfortunately, things appear to be going in that direction. I'm disappointed in the lack of creativity, but still enjoying the show.

Black and white is so ... young adult. I like a story that's a bit deeper.

Not saying the story isn't good. I've enjoyed the show - still do. I just think they could have been a bit more creative.

Well, black and white has been a theme ever since the very first season when Locke introduced Walt to Backgammon. It's not like they suddenly came up with it.

Got to agree. The complexity of this story has been in the way all the pieces have been moved around the board the past six years. The explanation for it all should be fairly straightforward. Underlying motivations are typically pretty simple. Look at everything that goes on in the world and realize it can all be boiled down to survival of the species.

No, it's not like it suddenly came up. But, it's also not as if the writers have been consistant.

Another one of their "themes" has been misdirection. Yet, there seems to be no misdirection at all this season.

So, now I'm wondering why they needed 4 other seasons to misdirect us just to bring us back to the black and white thing.

If that is the case, I can enjoy the show for what it is. However, that doesn't make the show "creative", in fact, it makes it the opposite. Not creative at all. Just a bunch of filler for misdirection that ultimately doesn't mean anything at all.

I believe they were told to 'pad' it for two years because it became a big hit. But, when cut down to the basics, LOST has been a good ride; more so than Voyager/Enterprise/nuBSG/Firefly..and far more popular with the general audience IMO!!
