I don't know. The "4" letter word was a spoiler clue given to readers by Kristen at eonline. Not the most reliable source, but is usually pretty solid with these type of clues. They just don't always end up being what you think they should be.

The very phrase, "The Island is (a) _ _ _ _" is open to many interpretations.

The 4-letter word could be a name like "Elba" in which case the answer could be anything and not important to the overall questions since name of the island might have very little, if any meaning. I mean maby Jacob named the Island "Orst" for some reason way back when. It would be an interesting fact, but would really mean nothing to the viewers.

On the other hand if the answer is "Lock", "Door", or something like that then it might give us some insight in to what's going on.

More 4-letter "O" words:
Ours, Tomb, Room, Loom, Show, Over, Iowa (lol)

Loom, like Jacob's loom? Tomb, like purgatory? Show, like a staged happening? Iowa, like the writers are on crack?

I'm leaning towards LOCK at the moment. It fits the riddle fairly well, kind of explains why Locke had such a such a strong connection, explains why MiB is wearing Locke's meatsuit (he likes irony, apparently), and would explain why the island was MiBs prison as well as why its important to the rest of the world. Heck, it even goes with the ratcheting sound the Smoke Monster makes and the clockwork wheel that accesses the island's traveling magic.

It also leaves the question of what it's locking, which suits the never-give-you-a-straight-fucking-answer mentality of the writers. :)

My other guess was LOST if for no other reason than because we never really learned why the show was called that. But it doesn't really fit other than that.

I think we know why the show was called Lost. Originally all the characters were Lost at sea & Lost on a desert Island. All the main characters were also "lost" emotionally speaking.

Over the seasons of course things have changed at bit. Some of them were "found" and made it off the Island. But they were still "lost" in their emotional lives and ended up back on the island.

It seems that the characters who were never emotionally Lost or who finally made peace with themselves (who "found themselves"), like Eko, Charlie, Anna Lucia were killed off.

Also "Lost" could refer to the viewers trying to figure everything out. ;)
