"Two prominent names in the creature feature business, Gary Dauberman and James Wan's Atomic Monster banner, known for their collaboration on the hit Annabelle horror movies, have teamed up to remake the 1990s cartoon as a live-action series for Disney Plus."

I'll be interested in seeing what they come with up with seeing as how much I enjoyed the original Gargoyles show, but it seems a shame that there will seemingly be no involvement from original series creator Greg Weisman.

I wonder if this will be a continuation, or a reboot, continuity-wise. That's an interesting wrinkle with Weisman not being on board. I understand that fandom considers the third season after its first episode to be non-canon, since that was the last episode he ever wrote. And then there have been the comics that he has been involved in creatively, which continued the story from that episode, disregarding the rest of the season (I think that's the deal; I haven't actually read them myself).

I remember enjoying the animated series when I was a kid, but a few years ago I rewatched it on Disney+ and I dunno, it didn't grab me that much. My tastes have changed or the memory cheats, who knows?

That said, I will likely check this show out anyway.

I'm skeptical, as well. Though a glimmer of hope is that it apparently has the same people behind it that did that Swamp Thing series on the DC Universe streaming service, which was not only very respectful to the source material, but used a nice mixture of CGI and practical effects for the creatures.

Hmm, I never watched Swamp Thing but I did hear good things about it. I'll be curious to see what Weisman's take is overall.

Color me extremely skeptical then but I'll listen.

Zack Stentz hinted on Twitter that there may be some good news coming about Weisman: https://twitter.com/MuseZack/status/1714068386269811043

I'm disappointed that it took 30 years to get a live-action Gargoyles, since so many of the original voice actors would've been perfect for their characters in live action if they'd done it at the time -- Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Ed Asner, Salli Richardson (and the rest of the Maza family, Rocky Carroll, Nichelle Nichols, & Michael Horse), Tom Wilson, Peter Scolari, Clancy Brown, Kate Mulgrew, Michael Dorn, Brent Spiner, Robert Culp, etc.

I hope at least the Gargoyles are done with practical prosthetics/animatronics as much as possible. Goliath, Hudson, and Demona could be actors in makeup easily enough, with just the wings being CGI.

I watched Gargoyles more times than I could count in my teen years. Hands down my favorite animated series from the 90's.

That said, a live-action Disney+ remake leaves me cold. I have no faith in anything attached to Disney these days.

Just leave it be.

Can't help but worry a bit by the tagline description. Goliath being freed from the stone curse and left to solve the mystery of his past alongside Eliza. Mainly makes me worried the series, at least initially, will be solely Goliath. With maybe Demona. And then over the course of maybe the first season with Eliza's help he'll find the location of at least some of the rest of the clan.

Just to keep the gargoyle count to a minimum. Otherwise you're talking about six gargoyle protagonists to CG and account for. Feels ambitious, though hey if I'm wrong(and I hope) all the better there.

As I said, most of them could be done with prosthetics, except for the wings, and those could be prosthetic when they were folded in "cape" configuration. Brooklyn could probably be done with an animatronic face, maybe redesigned a litlte for practicality.

Then again, Disney+ shows do seem awfully fond of their CGI characters, so they might go that route anyway.

I've often thought the hardest Gargoyle to realize in live action would be Lexington. I mean, his wing membranes go all the way along his sides. How the hell does his loincloth work? His wings would have to have slots cut in them to pass the fabric through, like in this fan art.
