Law & Order General Discussion Thread

Don't forget Ronnie Cox!

Whoopsies!

Agreed - you don't forget Edward Jellico. :techman:

More connections between L&O and Trek:
- Anthony Rapp (Paul Stamets from DSC) has played two different characters on SVU.
- James Frain (Sarek) was also on SVU once.
- Paul Sorvino (Worf's foster brother Nikolai Rozhenko) was on the original L&O for a season and a half. He played Sgt. Phil Cerreta
- Sonequa Martin-Green was on Criminal Intent once.
- Carolyn McCormick (Minuet from TNG's 11001001) has made many L&O appearances - in multiple series, I think - as Dr. Elizabeth Olivet.

Finally saw the episode where Amanda has her second child. Still don't get why the Germans put SVU into the late night program, whereas Bones is broadcasted prime time (featuring shredded/mutilated corpses......)

Section 31 aka William Sadler just entered an episode...... He has aged and looked shorter than in DS9!

Last night was once again the Olivia Benson crusade for the first half of the episode. The frustrating part of SVU is that she can never be wrong, ever.

He's been on various L&O series before, but I agree, he has aged significantly.

He was also on Blue Bloods as Eddie Janko's father.

(fun fact: Martin Sheen was also up for the role of Luther Sloan on DS9...)

Gary Sinise would be better as member of Section 31 - as a baddie for a change. I find it hard to picture Sheen as Sloan.

They are going to show some older SVU episodes on Thursdays....... Another opportunity for binge watching....

They should bring back Michael Cutter. Linus Roache pulls off an absolutely flawless NY accent (you'd never realize he's English) and is a thousand times more fun to watch than this doorknob they've got now.

YES! I've always been a huge Cutter fan. He was the main reason why I was completely heartbroken when the original Law & Order was canceled. (I can't believe that was 10 years ago now!)

Which episodes are your favorites?

I like a lot of the early stuff from Season 1 with Munch, like "Remorse," where he develops feelings for a TV news reporter that was raped.

And then there was that one interrogation scene in "Entitled, Part 1" where Munch & Jeffries are interrogating a suspect and Munch just seems like he's totally crazy.
Suspect: "Is this legal?"
Jeffries: (shrugs) "Probably not."
Munch: (whispers in his ear repeatedly) "I'm going to kill you. I'm going to kill you..."

Carolyn McCormick (Minuet from TNG's 11001001) has made many L&O appearances - in multiple series, I think - as Dr. Elizabeth Olivet.

My god, I never noticed that before! So that means... that the entirety of the Law & Order universe is just an elaborate simulation to trick Commander Riker!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I'm sure things have been tough on him since he's spent the last 14 years in prison for murdering that gang informant on the original L&O in "Life Line."

I guess this is what happens when you spend this long on the same TV series-- you ascend to godhood. I'm sure that the writers have no idea what to do with her because they never expected the actress to last this long. It's ironic that the L&O show with the longest lasting cast members is SVU, the department that actually has the highest turnover in the real life NYPD. (From what I've heard, the cases are all so psychologically taxing that everyone burns out after 4-5 years max.)

Dodds junior has been killed in action to exclude future cameos. Stone gave up after several seasons.
The comeback episode with Alexandra Cabot was weird.

Here's to Detective Munch....

I just had a thought:

Does Noah Benson (Liv's son) know he's adopted? I can't remember!

Dodds junior has been killed in action to exclude future cameos.

IIRC, that was the plan all along. The actor only signed on to do that one story arc.

That said, my favorite Mike Dodds moment is this:

Mike is in a gym, working out with a VERY cute trainer. His father comes in and says something like this (to the trainer): "Excuse me, can I talk for a moment with my single and eligible son"? :guffaw:

I kinda wish they'd stop doing that gimmick where the number of letters in an episode title is the same as the season number. It makes for some awkward turns of phrase. At least they're using complete sentences this time, though...

Oh, and @Kilana2, Tucker returns in this week's episode. Although I'm not liking what the L&O wiki says...

Tucker's retirement party ends in tragedy.

Philip Winchester had already uprooted his family once to move to Chicago for his work on Chicago Justice and Chicago PD. He didn't enjoy living in New York for SVU, so he quit after season 20.

Working in New York seems to be tough on some people. As I recall, that's why George Dzundza left the original series after only 1 season.

Dzundza left because he was under the impression that the Max Greevey character was going to be the primary star of the show, then he realized it was an ensemble and bailed after a year. Paul Sorvino wasn't ready or prepared for 16-18-hour shooting days, which is why he walked after a year and a half.

What I'd heard about Sorvino was more about how he didn't like the procedural aspect of the show; that he wanted something with more emotion & character development.

^ I don't remember that, although he did once say that he was concerned that the New York weather might be damaging his singing voice (Sorvino is an accomplished opera singer).

That said, I consider L&O's procedural aspect a strength. I actually liked the fact that the original L&O almost never got personal. In fact it was once described as "actor-proof", which I thought was a great compliment. :techman:

Holy crap, I can't believe what they did in the last episode... :(

OH MY GOD, THEY KILLED TUCKER!

YOU BASTARDS! :wtf:

I fear that Christopher Meloni returns for an episode .... to suffer the same fate....

(Hopefully not....)
