"LA X" Live Commentary

Seeing the flight attendant (Cindy?) again reminded me. Moments ago she said they were on the FIRST plane. First?
The second would be the Ajira plane, I assume.

Ah,

That explains it. I was trying to read more into it.

Wait a minute. Actually they are from the Ajira plane. Remember, this group was actually part of the O6 and came back via the second plane.

Slip-up or something else? Hard to tell with this show.

Did we ever see the ash actually being kicked over? That's the one thing I don't remember seeing.
In "The Incident" there was a break in the ash around the cabin.

I should have been clearer. Did we see the ash line get broken at any time? I remember the ash being referenced as surrounding Jacob's cabin (they walked carefully over it in earlier episodes). And I remember the ash line being broken in 'The Incident'. But did we see the ash line get broken?

Originally they were from the 815 with Cindy.

Is the Ajira the second plane they are talking about? Or with multiple timelines has the 815 managed to break up more than once over the Island? Bwaaahaaaaahaaaaa

In that case, no. I don't think we've seen that yet. Hopefully it will come up in a flashback at some point.

Cindy was the stewardess from the first plane. She recognized them from being from the same plane.

Cindy and the other Others might not even know that Jack & crew had even left the island and then returned on the Ajira flight. They might think they had been here the entire time.

They why use the phrase "The first plane?" Why not just say "They were on the plane with me?"

It could be possible that the Ash circles work against both Jacob and MIB.

Maybe MIB trapped Jacob in the cabin long ago by putting down the ash circle while Jacob was inside. So, for years Jacob was trapped in a cabin, but then maybe when Hurley tripped and fell by the cabin he broke the ash circle (beginning of season 4), allowing Jacob to go free?

Or...

Maybe MIB and the Smoke Monster arn't quite the same thing. maybe the MIB merges with the smoke monster to control it, but he is not always part of it?

So maybe the MIB was trapped in the cabin by the ash circle for years, and the Smoke Monster was out roaming wildly/freely but once the circle was broken MIB could go out and do stuff, plus start controlling/merging with the Smoke Monster again.

Why do people say anything one way and not another? The characters arn't there to spell things out for the audience.

If there are now two planes that have ended up on the island (815 & Ajira) it makes perfect sense to say that they are from the first plane.

It makes even more sense if the people at the temple are expecting people (Jacob's followers) to arrive on the second plane and/or that the second plane was special (remember, the Others seem to have been building a runway for the second plane so they must have been expecting it). By saying they were from the "first plane" it makes them less important, because the Others here at the temple might be waiting for the people from the second plane.

We have. Hurley disturbed it when he ran from the cabin in a panic after seeing the Ghost Of Jacob, or whatever it was. Think it was "Man Behind The Curtain". Not sure. But we have definitely seen it.

There was also the drug smuggler's plane.

Which predates flight 815, so 815 wouldn't be the first plane if you're looking at it that way.

Look I'm willing to concede it doesn't mean anything, but I'll have to agree to disagree with Mallet on his reply. It's yet another example of the odd dialogue choices these writers choose for the characters. Like no one ever ask a question, they also seem to often react strangely to situations. I don't know whether it's deliberate for some reason, or just odd/sloppy writing. Doesn't matter I guess.

Cindy wouldn't have known about the drug smuggler's plane, fwiw. She would be far more likely to know about the Ajira flight.

So the Flight 815 group once again meets a group of people who know a lot more about the island and what's going on than THEY do. With all the people on the island(s), why haven't they been tripping over each other before now?

The people at the temple and The Others are the same people.

Ben sent them all to the temple to hide out, back at the end of season three when he and Alex went across the island to cut off Jack and the 815 survivors and to try and get Jack to not call for help on the radio phone.

At that time Locke was with the Others and he saw Cindy there as well. Ben tells Richard to take the Others to the Temple to meet up with the rest of "their people" since they would be safe there.

Richard did that (off screen) then he left the temple with a small group of Others and went looking for Ben and to see what was going on. Richard's group then met up with Kate & Sayid and worked with them to free Ben from Widmore's merc's (end of season 4).

So, the Other's in the village, and on Hydra island, and at the Temple are all the same group of people, just spread out over the island in different areas. The Temple, though, appears to be the main HQ and the one area where they feel "safe". At least Ben said it was the only safe place on the island (when he was trying to get Alex and her mother to get to safety).

I would guess that the Temple is the traditional Other's HQ and base, and it was only after Ben took over and Dharma was wiped out, that the Other's started living in the village and doing scientific research and recruiting scientists (like Juliet) from off the island to come work for them. It was probably Ben's decision to do all of this and it might have been the reason for his people to lose faith in him and a reason why he eventually got cancer and the island didn't heal him.

he was taking things to far away from the islands natural order of things. Or maybe to far away from jacob's plan.

As was said above, these are the Others. We've never seen their temple before, but it's been mentioned many times over the years.

I have to say, these Others at the temple are more like the people I expected to meet in season three. For the first two seasons the Others seemed almost a supernatural presence on the island. Then we meet them and most of them are just a bunch of morons running around with guns like Danny. Sort of a letdown. This last episode has me interested in the Others again.

I agree. They were even using ancient Chinese fireworks are signals/warnings. Not radios and flare guns and other modern technology that Ben and Mr. Friendly and the Other's in the Spyglass station were using.

I wonder if there is a big disconnect between "old school" Other's (like those at the temple) and the barracks living Other's (Juliet, Ethan and the other Scientists, housing living, book club attending, dharma station using people).

The Other's we have gotten to know so far don't seem to be outdoor people at all. They like all the modern technology and use it, they have people off the island broadcasting live back to the island, they use subs, they were modern clothing, sonic fences, shock guns, computers, etc...

These Others seem to be the opposite. Rag-tag clothing, primitive living conditions, etc...

Different lifestyles, but all apparently following Ben up until recently.

I can only assume that it was Ben that might have "pushed" them into the 21st century.
