So, Carry On Spying just finished in time to check BBC1 and see some blonde woman I don't recognise being introduced as the Doctor - it's Jodie Whittaker. She looks like she might be OK, based on the moment of her expression.
Now the internet melts down as the fanboys insist we can't have a female Doctor, while I shrug and just hope they write, direct and perform her just as the Doctor in proper Dr Who stories, and wonder whether we can trust Chibnall to do that, because I know I wouldn't trust Moffat to.

She was fucking phenomenal in Broadchurch, even the atrocious season 2.
I only know her from Broadchurch. Interested to see how she approaches The Doctor role.
So I guess we can add her to the list of actors from Broadchurch who've been in Doctor Who.
And I guess Bill gets part of her wish of a Doctor coming back as a woman.

That being, I do have the same worries as Lonemagpie about the writing, but I'm choosing to be optimistic for now.
One odd thing: Why have The Thirteenth Doctor blonde? Everything I've seen Whittaker in, she's a brunette. Isn't that her natural hair color?

It was pretty obviously her when she appeared out of nowhere a few days before the official announcement with lots of bets being placed. I did worry the BBC might have chickened out but am delighted they didn't.
I just hope for her sake they've told her to stay off the Internet for the next few weeks until the arseholes have finished spewing their venom. I'm planning a bit of break myself as I don't fancy subjecting myself to them either.
