Jeux olympiques de Paris 2024 - Olympic games 2024 in Paris

Shinnosuke Oka got the gold in the Men's Individual All Around. Yatta! I thought Daiki Hashimoto was just as great. These guys were mesmerizing to watch.

So happy for all our competitors today but the three gold medallists are particularly brilliant. Cam McEvoy basically retired four years ago and now this. Kaylee McKeown defending her second title, something no other backstroker has ever done. And Saya Sakakibara, with everything she and her family have been through... Just unreal. Good on them all.

And again, how good is Marchand??

Marchand wins his 4th gold medal at the Men's 200m Individual Medley. Very impressive.

Meanwhile, some swimmers who were pretty gung-ho and confident did not even medal.

Very good and he has all the country behind him.

Today's front page of the major sport newspaper L'Equipe was a challenge, yesterday was such a great day for french sport with Marchand and his 3rd gold medal, Teddy Riner, the all french podium in BMX.

4 gold medals for Marchand. Another bronze for Florent Manaudou.

Two Gold medals for Germany today - so far. I hope Leo Neugebauer isn´t fading again in the last competetions in the men`s decathlon.

Summer McIntosh is going to be an absolute star of the sport. Good on her.

Stoked for Matt Ebden and John Peers. What a great result. Another good day for us.

Edit: Pretty disgusted - to put it politely - that our 1500m runner Olli Hoare was subjected to abuse from gutless wonders on so-called "social" media after missing out in the heats. Poor bloke was disappointed enough without having to deal with that crap. How pathetic that people who have probably never done anything more athletic in their lives than walk from the couch to the fridge and back again feel entitled to abuse someone who's good enough to get to the Olympics. Too many people are complete idiots - to put it even more politely.

Sam Short and Florian Wellbrock also underperformed. Sam was sick this year I´ve heard and Wellbrock couldn´t put pressure into the water, didn´t want to talk to the media after his race.

Summer is still young and Marchand is the most versatile swimmer after Phelps. It´s a shame the French relays are not as strong as they once were.

Fun fact: Lukas Maertens has scratched his Gold Medal: it fell from his night table. In sports we already had football teams who dropped their cup while celebrating a championship or so.

Leo won silver after the Norwegian guy who had the decathlon of his life. Nobody over 9000 points, though. Warner was out of the medal race with Salto Nullo at Pole Vault.

I am not a Djokovic fan but seeing him break down after winning the Olympic gold medal because it meant so much to him was very moving. He even sang his heart out for his national anthem. So sweet, well done to him! Even mega multimillionaire tennis players appreciate the games.

The swimming competitions were concluded on Sunday. Congrats to all the winners, including Team USA.

I don't particularly like NBC's coverage of the gymnastics finals. At first, I thought I was having issues with my cable provider XFinity cutting off the recordings prematurely. Then I realized it has more to do with NBC's programming itself.

Last Saturday the 3rd, it didn't showcase the Men's Floor Exercise or Pommel Horse. The focus was on Simone Biles, who is a great gymnast, but come on, there are plenty of other athletes and countries in the Olympics. Of course, I found out later who the winners were in the men's competitions, but I had to watch the segments on YouTube.

Carlos Yulo from my home country, the Philippines, won gold in the Men's Floor Exercise and would earn another gold on Sunday in the Men's Vault, which also didn't air on NBC.

Armand Duplantis just won the Pole Vault Gold Medal - currently he is trying to improve his own world record - 6,25 m - with all his competitors watching the big show. He failed twice, but finally the son of a gun got it......

Probably one of my favorite performance so far. 6.25m, 30 cm above the silver medal, it's very impressive.

Warholm wanted to face Duplantis in a 100m race - they should perform a decathlon together......

I´m happy for the guy from Greece winning bronze....

Pole vaulting is always great to watch and that was no exception. Proud of Kurtis Marschall, who dislocated his ankle in April and somehow got out there and performed well.

Super stoked for Noemie Fox. Fabulous result for her. Loved her mum and sister jumping into the water to celebrate with her. Amazing family.

There are so many funny memes and moments in these Olympics, from the bad-ass Turkish shooter to Thomas Ceccon as the real-life statue of David to Jules Bouyer's Speedos to Ammirati's pole vault. Good times!

I must be on a different planet from the rest of you because so far these ceremonies are awful. It's like 10 seconds snippetss of the athletes intercut with unappealing surreal shit. All the performances have the energy of those horrible fashion shows where anorexics strut down a runway in hideous clothes that no normal person would ever wear.

While I admit some parts like the section on diversity (a fashion show?) and the running horse were overly long, I thought it was a creative use of both history and environment, ie Marie Antoinette shown on the palace walls, etc, in a way that that was entertaining. In the past, we'd have to wait until the parade of athletes was finished for the entertainment to begin, but what was great this time around was that they were able to weave it around narrative and switch to the athletes as necessary, which IMHO had a great flow to it.

The Jules Verne cauldron is a great idea. I am a little annoyed that the flame appears to be fake – but then again, that makes sense given that it's flying hundreds of feet above Paris.

I had no idea untill reading the comments here that Celine Dion would be performing, and what a performance. I could see how emotional she was being able to perform again, and I got a little emotional too.

I loved the Cauldron, and it made me wonder how they achieved it. Pretty good technical achievement, and these opening ceremonies seemed to be filled with lots of those.

Celine's performance was so good, and so strong considering what she'd had to overcome with her Stiff Person's Syndrome. I saw a video where she described how painful it could become when her vocal chords become stressed. She was hoping this performance would mark a comeback.

So in terms of golds this is now our most successful Olympics to date. There are probably better measures but I'm stoked for all our team (well, maybe not the idiot who allegedly tried to buy cocaine).

It's unfortunate that several of our gold medallists end up being interviewed hours after the event by (either of) two of the most moronic figures on Australian television. Seems like a case of win a gold and get a booby prize as well.
