James Kirk's height

Raul

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Since new generations seems to be taller than older, I'm a bit curious to know if there are some speculations about Kirk's height. I know that Shatner height is 1.77m (5 ft 10 in), but sounds right that Kirk could be considered taller.

I don't think Bill was ever truly 5-10. Maybe he was 5-9 on a good day when he was in his best shape. It's pretty well-documented that he wore lifts in his boots, so those probably elevated him to between 5-10 and 5-11 in uniform. However, Nimoy and Dee Kelley were always noticeably taller.

But Shatner wasn't distractingly short or anything. He had a terrific physical presence even in scenes with much taller guest stars.

Yes, Shatner had that command presence, even in some scenes that he wasn't present in. For instance, when he was stuck on the Constellation in Doomsday Machine, he was overruling Decker by sheer willpower and ordering Spock to take command of the Enterprise.

I just assumed that everybody was taller in the 23rd century so Kirk is actually 6'2" and Rand is 6". ;-p

Absolutely, Phaser Two. As a girl, I always thought he was as tall as my dad (6'3"). Later, I was disillusioned, but his commanding presence has always made me see him through some type of rose-colored, height-extender glasses.

Raul, to me.... he was and always will be a giant. :techman:

I agree, in the future humans have to be a little taller. Somewhere this have to stop, but not now.

In the future everybody's proportions are increased so they are about twelve feet tall, but we can't tell because everything else is built proportionately to match that average physique.

Edit: Oh wait, those times they time-traveled to the past and were the same size as everyone else, there's some timey-wimey handwavey quantum physics transformation that goes with the time travel.

I'm still confused as to why they didn't shoot even further back in time at the end if Tomorrow is Yesterday. They weren't even flying the ship in reverse. Don't make it worse.

Shat's boots had a thicker heel and sole than Nimoy or Kelley.

That was just one pair of his boots, the early Cuban heels version. He wore different boots all the time. These are just two examples:

Dress boots with no heels (Plato's)

Dress boots with low heels (Plato's)

Sometimes the idea was to adjust his height; he had a pair with built-in lifts that I can't find a photo of right now. Other times it was to accommodate stunts that would risk damaging the custom-made costume boots.

"McCoy's a little dumber, Kirk's a little shorter..."

Nimoy was obviously taller than Shatner but I wouldn't have said Kelley was! Shat was the star of the show and it was okay for the odd alien to be taller but not other humans with the exception of Morgan Woodward as Captain Ronald Tracey, one of the most experienced Captains in the Star Fleet!

Yes, Captain Tracey taught Kirk a few lessons in kick ass fighting.
