Is every CHARACTER somebody's favorite?

Eddie Roth

This spins off from a point made over in the thread about episodes and whether even those generally despised have such ardent fans that they would call it their favorite. The same could be asked about characters - which is therefore the question right here.

Sure, it's easy to say that Spock, Picard, Worf, Seven of Nine, Data (etc.) are your favorite Trek character ever. Most people would probably name one of these names if asked. Or are YOU the person who's different and who actually likes the Neelixes, the Wesleys and so forth THE BEST?

Can we, in this thread, find a passionate advocate for any and all Trek main characters? Meaning: really really passionate, "this character is my all-time favorite" advocates?

Pulaski was my favorite doctor. Not sure if she was my favorite character. And I admit I liked Wes* and Neelix as well. I guess if I could like them, they could be someone's favorite.

*When he wasn't randomly saving the while ship, anyway, that was just dumb.

From classic (as in pre DISC) Trek, my favourite character is Major Kira. I wasn't a big fan of the Odo romance, but other than that I think the character was interesting, fairly complex, and superbly acted by Nana Visitor.
Edit: She could also be hilarious when she got angry. "I will come to Quarks...and I WILL have 'fun'!" hahaha

I also loved Ezri's neurotic little self and I think she was the much more interesting character when compared to Jadzia.

Well my favourites are Bones/Chekov/Scotty, Geordi, O'Brien/Quark/Bashir/Garak, Tom Paris/Harry Kim, T'Pol/Phlox and nuUhura/nuBones/nuPike, at least this moment. I liked Wesley a lot in "The Game" but that was my first exposure to him. I don't mind Neelix, nor Kes. I was quite emotional when Kes left the ship. Maywho was great as a MACO in IAMD with that dope hair.
My favourite captain is probably Pike from 09, at least this minute. As a kid I probably would have said Sisko.

I like Neelix - once he was more nuanced through the interaction with Naomi Wildman - because he seems like a cool, caring uncle.
But he’s still not my favourite.
I don’t know if I have a favourite.

My favorite is Pike, even before 2009.

How are we defining a character? Mains, secondaries and guests all included?

I'll put in a vote for Chakotay. I always liked him, even if it was more for what I saw as his potential than for what he actually did. I loved the idea of a man who was essentially peaceful, who had been driven to go to war (and was good enough at it to attract some attention). That he was good-looking and seemed to have a wry sense of humor didn't hurt, either.

One thing he did do that impressed me was in "Scorpion I," where he profoundly disagreed with Janeway and handled it in an absolutely professional manner: he waited until the rest of the staff had left the conference room, expressed himself clearly and calmly -- and when she overruled him, he went out onto the bridge and not only followed her order, but also silenced dissent from the others. Way to do it, bud.

Basically, we need 2 different people to enter this thread, one to state Welsey Crusher is their favourite, the other to state Neelix is.

And then we will have an answer. For the moment, that's not me.

Tuvok would be my choice for Voyager because he was the 1st realized Vulcan I'd ever experienced; not a half breed who had to adjust with emotions or deal with the conflict with his political parents. He was a family man who had his beliefs and believed in the philosophy of logic and disagreed with the alternate philosophy of "Pure logic" which other Vulcans like Spock, Sybok and some others have engaged in. I was originally negative about his character being a security guy because for some reason I had this weird thought of why another black actor has to be a Michael Dorn to fill the shoes on a bridge?
Enjoyed every scene he, the actor Tim Russ, made when he had the opportunity for the growth of Tuvok because I immediately understood he was not "Black Spock". Nimoy's vision of Spock was to make him more human in his portrayal while Russ' character was to be more elderly human - a wise man who's seen a lot of things in his life and isn't afraid to express them. Not sure if the pairing of Neelix as his Costello* was solid but Russ made it kinda work when I thought the flow was off. I'd prefer the writers to be a little more original and try an "Odd Couple"** pairing with B'Elanna to see where their personalities lie during conflict, but the writers were too invested in her being shacked up with Tom "wannabe Riker" Paris.

Tuvok was the only reason why I bothered with that terrible Star Trek series, while his Captain continued to pursue ultimate greatness in being the only character to be in Trek's Mount Rushmore - Michael Burnham may be reaching GOAT Janeway's status - he was grounded because every small moment or moments he had on screen proved with thought and fascination you don't have to ape off Nimoy to present a compelling Vulcan character.

*The golden age American comedy duo Abbott and Costello.
** "The Odd Couple" was a Tony Award winning play which spawned 2 motion pictures and 2 TV series.

Gotta put a vote in for Dr. Phil Boyce.
I know, I know...
But he was a "Main Character" - of a kind - in the Pilot, and would have continued if It had continued with that cast.

Assuming we're just talking about main characters and perhaps recurring characters here, not guests. It's hard to imagine Armus or Kivas Fajo would be anybody's favorite, so then the answer probably would be 'no'.

Neelix is not my favorite character, but I like him. I think it's a shame he was mainly used for (mediocre) comedic relief, when there were much greater depths to him which unfortunately we only saw in a few episodes, and he had a tragic backstory which could explain why he so desparately tried to fit in.

Probably. Of the main cast, usually everyone has a lot of strong qualities. Though it 8s tougher for the underutilized characters.

My favorites:
TOS/TAS: Spock
TNG: Picard
DS9: Kira
VOY: Torres
ENT: T'Pol
PIC: Seven
DISCO: Saru
LD: Tendi
PRO: Gwyn
SNW: Una

Toughest calls are VOY & SNW (The Doctor/Janeway/Seven & Pike/La'An/Chapel/Spock).

Least liked:
TOS/TAS: Chekov
TNG: Wesley
DS9: Bashir
VOY: Kim (Neelix for a while)
ENT: Reed
DISCO: Terran Georgiou (she IS a mass murderer, after all).
PIC: Jack
LD: Mariner
PRO: Jakob
SNW: Pelia
