If you won a "vacation"...

An Officer

Say you unexpectedly won a voucher... say £1000 or $2000, roughly... and you could only purchase a holiday for two with it, where would you go, and what would you do?

Re: If you won a holiday...

Upon seeing this thead title all I can think is:

"I'll take Saint Patricks Day! Oh and maybe Groundhog day if there's some left over."

I must be an American. I take vacations.

However, given the option of a holiday, I would totally take No Pants Day.

If I were to go on vacation, I would probably fly out west. I've never been farther west than Iowa, so I still have half of my own country to explore.

Re: If you won a holiday...

I like going to North America, I've been to Florida, New York and a few other places. So maybe I would try Los Angeles or Toronto perhaps

Re: If you won a holiday...

Your money probably would go much further if you were a U.S citizen and chose to stay within the U.S for your "vacation".

I've changed the thread title for those having problems with non-American use of language... you really ought to learn to speak English you guys! :p

Re: If you won a holiday...

I knew what you meant. But No Pants Day is still worth mentioning whenever possible.

Re: If you won a holiday...

^ I agree, no pants is a special privilege. I go no pants at home even throughout the winter... I just turn the heating up to compensate! :D

Re: If you won a holiday...

As a Brit mine would also be a holiday. I hear Vacation and I assume Chevy Chase and family are gonna be coming along

Re: If you won a holiday...

God forbid!

My initial thought would be a cruise... but I suspect it would be far more than a £1000 for a decent one... Plus I recently saw the news story of the cruise ship which got stuck on one of the ice caps for 3 days before they were able to be rescued! Yikes!

I'm limiting mine to the US because of the money, so I'd probably want to go to New England in the fall and maybe look at some historical sites. Something not too planned, kind of casual and relaxing.

Do you really think it would not be enough to see you out of the states, even for just a week!? Are you thinking 5 star here? Or is that really how worthless money has become?

I'd rent a cool log cabin in BC, Canada, or maybe southern Alaska, with SPOCKED.

Two summers ago my roommate and I took a roadtrip along the East Coast. We're from Illinois, so we drove to Maine and weaved down to North Carolina over the course of a couple weeks. If you exclude the cost of gas, I think each of us only spent about $800 for the whole trip.

We didn't stay anywhere for more than a couple days (3 days in D.C. because I have friend who lives there), but we stayed everywhere long enough just to see the big sites, hit a couple local bars, and head to the next destination. Best trip I've ever taken.

I wouldn't want airfare to eat up such a large chunk of the budget.

That sounds great, and kind of what I had in mind. Also I'm from Illinois too! :)

Well with $2000 you'd probably just get air fare and maybe some food especially for two people.

I guess for U.S. residents, wanting to go further out to Europe etc... simply the volume of miles involved would make the air fare astronomical. :(

Now, can we have more decently placed, and civilised European residents chipping in please... If you live in the back end of beyond, you may as well be stuck there... :p

Hey, there's nothing wrong with driving 8 hours to go another state. We just pretend it's another country.

Ooh look at all the fascinating flora and fauna in exotic Minnesota.
