I just experienced Star Trek: Bridge Crew in VR for the first time and WOW!

The Rock

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I've had the game for years on PC but always played it with just a mouse & keyboard since the makers of the game came out with a patch for non-VR players to play it. I always liked it despite M&K controls being somewhat cumbersome to use.

I got a Meta Quest 3 VR headset recently and finally played this game the way it was originally intended (in VR) and I was blown away. Not only is the game much easier to control, but the feeling you get when sitting on the bridge of the Enterprise-D or the TOS Enterprise in VR is indescribable. And just wait till you have to face the Borg....you feel the same dread and terror that the crew of the Enterprise felt in TNG's "The Best of Both Worlds"!

I heard the game is really fun in multiplayer but sadly the multiplayer part of the game is dead. Still, single player is always a blast!

It does a pretty good job showing how the TOS set can be used functionally to "realistically" control a starship too. It pretty much shoots down the idea (usually by fans of the SNW reboot look) that TOS' bridge would be too unbelievable--all the buttons in the game of the TOS bridge are given relevant ship functions.

While I loved sitting on the bridge, I wasn't a big fan of the gameplay in single player. I was playing Red Matter at the time and wishing they'd made a game like that, set on a derelict starship where you get to explore and learn what happened to the crew. I'm still hoping they'll do it one day...

I felt sad that it was discontinued given that I felt VR was the perfect avenue for a Star Trek game like this.

Sad because this game was indeed lot of fun online with other people, well unless you were from Glasgow like me and were asked to say "There be whales here" and "I canna change the laws of physics", for the 600th time while being told i could only play as the engineer console. lol

I wished this game had taken off with modders.

I'm surprised the bridges haven't been imported to SteamVR yet, I'd love to walk around them freely (although there are really cool Enterprise bridges and sets on there already)

I wish!

From what I read the game isn't easily moddable. :wah:

When the game first came out you could actually walk around the bridges in room scale if you had the vr space in your room via your CV1 or Vive, but i think it was one of the last update the game that removed that ability and now when you stand up your vr view goes black.

OMG. Why did they remove that feature?

It was not really a feature, it was just that if you had the vr space in reality you could just walk about these bridges, like walk over and check out the gold ship models or stand in the middle of the table, the player charactor never moved from the chair, just the vr user could wander about from the seated position.........but i suspect the makers never thought anyone would do anything other that sit playing this game. Lol

But if anyone wants to try this in vr let's see if we can get a group together at a time that suits everyone.

I am in the UK.

I play single player on Steam, but haven’t seen anyone in the waiting room to play multiplayer for a long time. I find the game very difficult to flick back and forth and control the ship fast enough to not be beaten.

It is a lot easier when you have 3 other people doing other stations.

Who is up for a game, you can use VR or non vr at the same time, game workers either way.

I know some friends who played the game around 5 years ago or so. Not sure if they still play it now. I tried it - thought it was okay.

I'd be up for it at some point of time. I remember TrekBBS folks tried to do it before! I've not played for a while.. I was good on the Ent-D bridge, and the original bridge. the TOS bridge and the random jelly buttons = no way! :D

I typically only play the original Enterprise, then the Kelvin era ship. Rarely the D.

Ok for anyone who wants to give this a try, what day of the week would be best.....................i am fine with whatever day of the week as i can move most stuff about in the evenings,
