How much of Shea is left?

Well Citi Field is officially open for business now. There was a college game there over the weekend to 'shakedown' the new stadium, and the Mets are playing a pair of exhibition games this coming weekend.

Pity the weather was so dreary the first game, though. And that the uniform patch is so damn ugly (looks like the Domino's Pizza logo! :guffaw: )

Looks like Citi Field is gonna rock. I can't wait to see it. It looks like an absolutely beautiful ballpark. I hope they don't leave the old Home Run Apple out near the right field gate, though...I thought they were going to put it outside the front entrance. Oh well, gotta look at the bigger picture here...the Mets finally have a decent place to play! :techman:

I don't know where the old Apple will go. I think it's a little campy to put out in the Jackie Robinson Rotunda area, but something a little more prominent than right field would be nice. I get the feeling that the stadium is "substantially complete" but still needs some finishing touches.

Has the old Shea site been paved yet? I'm going to a game in a few weeks and if that's not open yet I'm definitely taking mass transit. I might do that anyway because my parents live near the Metro North line, and then spend the evening in the city afterwards.

A lot of the site is done, but not all of it. I think there's a small section of rubble but it's contained within a fence. Most of the old Shea site is parking now. Stadiumpage.com has some new pictures.

Yeah it's just a pile of rubble now....I passed it last week when I went to my friends house via #7. The subway stop is of course changed too...no more shea :( The apple is being displayed ...I forget where and I just read it in the darn paper the other day...! All I know is I'm still pissed it's called Citifield...I'm not going to refer to it that way...and here we are economy is in the shitter and the city...us...paying for these new stadiums...really annoyed about that. I planned on boycotting this year but my sister bought tickets for April 18th ...so that's the only way i'm going is for free because I'm not spending one dollar there. We also bought a memorial brick for my dad so that will be nice to see and that's the main reason i'm going.

That Domino's pizza logo blows ass. And its unfortunate that the weather will suck for it. I was in NYC on Wednesday and part of yesterday and it was pretty dreary!

Seriously and I usually abbreviate this but WHAT THE FUCK is that all about?

They should be using the patch on the cap.

I'm hoping they'll reconsider before the first home game because that is awful.

That's as bad if not worse than the Mercury Mets.

They've been totally murdered by that patch on various sites. ESPN.com had a whole column devoted to the epic fail of it all.

And rightfully so.

Have you seen the new Yankee Stadium Patch?

Now Compare.

It's like the Mets want to be the ugly, red-headed step-child of New York baseball. Do they even do any market research on this crap before they go with it? It's flippin' embarrassing

Now take a look at this (the hat patch)

That I'd sign up for all day long.

Let's hope to God they reconsider.

From what I gather, they have not finished clearing and grading the old site yet. That's what I heard on TV last week during the exhibitions against Boston.

I'm going two weeks from today and if you ask real nice I'll take a shitload of pics.

Not much left besides a pile of dirt in the parking lot.

Hey Baba, where you from? You seem to be a big NY baseball guy but don't appear to live there.

I'm from Omaha, Nebraska. I know I'm the furthest thing from a real New Yorker but I go to NYC all the time on vacation (2-3 weeks every year) because I love the city so much. And I'm a huge fan of both the Yankees and Mets.

As for the Shea site: I saw it on the Mets/Padres game last night, it looked almost done. It probably will be done by the time I get there, next month (I've got a vacation coming up :techman: ).

So this demo's over. All things considered, I'm okay with Shea being gone. It had a lot of great memories and awesome players but strictly as a ballpark, it sucked. It needed to go. Long live Citi Field! :techman:

(mods, please close this thread, I think it's arrived at its end)

FYI the apple with the top hat is in bullpen plaza, right below the bridgein center field. The stadium is really nice. I was there opening day,Wednesday and am going back tonight. i was trying to find a large size hat patch for my Reyes jersey but no luck. The citi patch is awful.
