How long will it take for season 2 of Star Trek Prodigy to be released in Canada?

How long will it take for season 2 of Star Trek Prodigy to be released in Canada?

No idea, unfortunately nothing's been announced yet. I think we're all just waiting. Hopefully they will release it around the same time as Netflix does, but who knows?

But keep watching the forum, I'm sure someone will mention it in here once we know anything.

If you have to explain a joke, it's not funny.

If it was going to be CTV / Crave, wouldn't we know by now?

And if they didn't pick it up, why wouldn't Netflix just show it here?

My understanding is that it's already been confirmed that CTV has the rights. My understanding from earlier articles is that they're going to be releasing it on CTV Sci-Fi and ctv.ca. (Not Crave, unfortunately, which I'd prefer. I'd be happy if they surprised us by releasing it on Crave, but it doesn't look to be likely at this point.)

So we know it's going to be on CTV, we just don't know when.

I don't know if CTV is going to actually make some kind of announcement, or if season 2 is just going to show up someday. So I took a look at Zap2It, and based on the scheduling information they currently have available, it doesn't look like there will be any Prodigy episodes airing on TV before July 7, which is the farthest look ahead they have right now.

Not to say CTV Sci-fi couldn't change their schedule, but this is what's out there right now.

And of course this wouldn't cover anything that may be added to ctv.ca.

If they start on the week of Netflix release, it'll run for 20 weeks because 20 episodes. That's my working assumption for now.

Unless they do two episodes a week, than it would only be ten weeks, possibly lining up perfectly with the premiere of Lower Decks, assuming that's early September like it was last year.

Moot point anyway. As already noted, there's no plans for Prodigy to air in Canada the same week as the American Netflix release.

I understand Bell media has the rights and S1 is already on the CTV app. But what exactly would legally prevent Bell media to instead/also put on Crave? Including S2. That's what don't understand.

SNW, Discovery, Picard, etc were removed from Crave because exclusive streaming rights went to Paramount plus Canada. Ok fine.. But that's not case with Prodigy. It's not on Paramount plus Canada or USA. It's not o Netflix Canada. So what is preventing it from being on Crave? Who exactly would get pissed if it dropped on Crave? Paramount plus Canada ? : " hey guys you are not allowed to show it because we have the rights....um actually we don't really soo umm " Or Netflix Canada?: " hey guys your not allowed , WE have it!..oh wait..not in Canada...right um yeah well...

What is the logic here? Whos toes would Bell Media be stepping on by putting it on their own Crave streaming service?

Unless the rights agreement only includes use of one outlet.

consensus seems to be to use a VPN and watch on Netflix. Some of them are free. And Netflix has a tier that is only $7 you can get for a month.

Consensus among whom? When have Star Trek fans ever had a consensus about anything??

I have honestly considered this option, I have just not brought it up because, I'm honestly not sure if we're allowed to talk about that type of thing here? But I want to watch Prodigy on my TV, and manually changing the DNS setting on my TV back and forth depending on what I'm watching sounds like a pain. I will probably leave it for now, in hopes that CTV gets its act together soon, but may change my mind later based on how much FOMO I experience.

Just some general comments, without advocating anything:
  • Netflix actively tries to identify VPN exit nodes. According to them, if you use a VPN on an ad-free plan, you will only see shows they have global rights to (which doesn't include Prodigy). If you use a VPN on an ad-supported plan, you will just be blocked entirely.
  • Some services are apparently better than avoiding this detection than others. (Or they just have a lot more available exit nodes they can use?)
  • Using a VPN is apparently a violation of Netflix's TOS (even though the information above about how VPNs interact with their various plans comes from their own Help Center!) So technically, they could theoretically terminate your account for using one, even though in practice this doesn't seem to happen.

Some of them are free.

Using a free VPN is not usually a good idea. Do your research before you start using any service like this.

The agreement that allows Bell Media to continue to air the new Trek shows on CTV Sci-Fi actually does specify that there is to be no Star Trek content on Crave. At all. So if they did put Prodigy on Crave, they'd be in violation of their contract and would forfeit rights to air any new Trek content on CTV Sci-Fi. And Paramount could potentially take away their rights to classic Trek content just to spite them.

Can you give a citation for this? I'm surprised such specific stipulations/ details are available to the general public .

Also , do we know if Prodigy is currently a CTV Sci-fi show.?

The information out there seems to suggests it's only on the CTV app and ctv.ca . No mention of CTV Sci-Fi channel for season 2 or moving forward. So May not even be on cable.. It seems to be a streaming license from Paramount to Bell Media sometime after Prodigy was removed from Paramount plus USA and was given to Netflix USA.

So in reference to Prodigy, the contract says no to Crave but ok with CTV app?

Find it odd that a streaming licenseing agreement to an eniry can dictate the delivery system om how it is streamed. So CTV would lose the streaming rights to Prodigy if they switch to another streaming platform that is not called CTV app?

Welcome to contract negotiations.
