How come I purchase Star Trek Prodigy on iTunes in Canada?

If season 1 is not available on iTunes (for purchase), blu-ray sets of seasons 1A and 1B (both 10 episodes) can be purchased as an alternative, from the likes of Amazon (by import from the US, if not directly in Canada). Moreover, a full season 1 blu-ray set can be imported from Europe, if it plays on Canadian players that is (the US disc is region-free but the same may not be true of the European discs).

My understanding is TV shows are no longer available in iTunes, you have to use the Apple TV store. Season 1 of Prodigy is available there for $3.49 per episode, or $29.99 for the season.
The blu-ray sets are both currently available on Amazon Canada for $27.99 each.

You can watch season one either on CTV.ca or the CTV app. But yes, you will need some kind of TV subscription to sign in to view the Prodigy episodes. Fortunately, they do seem to accept a number of IPTV services now.
Note that for whatever reason, searching for "Star Trek Prodigy" doesn't find it. If you just search for "Prodigy", though, that will work.
Season 2 is not available yet in Canada. The earlier press release seemed to indicate that it will also be available on CTV.ca and the CTV app. Not sure about any CTV terrestrial stations/CTV Sci-fi or Crave at this point.

IPTV is basically just a television service over the internet, usually through an internet service provider. If you don't currently have one, then it probably won't help you with watching Prodigy.

But note when you go to that page, you see a "Sign in to watch" message. That's where your television provider comes in. You will have to sign in with the credentials provided by your television provider in order to watch the episodes, whether that provider is a traditional cable service or an IPTV service. At the sign-on screen, select "Sign in through TV provider", then find your provider in the list, then you will be prompted for your login and password. Once that's done, you should be able to watch the episodes. If you don't have a TV provider, then you won't be able to watch. (Please note that I don't know if your TV package has to include CTV Sci-fi for this to work, or not.)

Neither do I. Fortunately there are other options (blu-ray or digital purchase) for season 1. I do worry about how I'm going to watch season 2 when it comes out, though.
Honestly, I just went into the Apple TV app and searched for "star trek prodigy". Here's the link from the app, although it looks like if you just open the link in a browser, you don't get the purchase options.

You would either download the Apple TV app on your computer (or Apple device) and then search for Prodigy there, or if you do live with people who have cable and pay for "CTV Sci-Fi Channel", then they can go to ctv.ca and log in using their credentials (typically the same account they use to view their bills) and you will be able to watch Prodigy on ctv.ca (and also all the other Star Trek shows).
