Houston becomes the largest city to elect openly gay mayor?

I wouldn't give that sort of remark much attention. It wasn't so long ago, in historical terms, that Blacks, Jews, et cetera were also still considered genetically inferior by many. As the subject of this Thread proves, much progress can be made in a short amount of time, and the rate of change continues to accelerate. America will always win in the end. :bolian:

I take issue with your earlier statement toward the State of Texas, in general. First, I am not a native Texan, nor do I live there; however, those of you out east, who think you live in such a "tolerant" area need to be reminded that your States/towns still have segregated neighborhoods (blacks, Jews, Russians, Jamaicans, etc), plus, there are still incidents in your local news reporting of racial strife as well as the occasional gays bashing incident.

You'd be surprised at how open-minded and accepting of others the so-called uncivilized area west of the Appalachians (aka Flyover Country") really is.
I'm well aware of anti-American attitudes in my own area, and I'm also well aware that there are good and civilized people all over the country. Nevertheless, there are various dominant sub-cultures in different States-- that's why they color them red and blue on the political maps-- and it's a very good sign to see something like this happening in a place like Texas.
I did not say anything about anti-American attitudes or sub-cultures in your State, or other States. But if you want to play the "Red State, Blue State" BS and claim Blue States are more "enlightened" then I will remind you that Red States enacted Women's Suffrage and also had entire thriving towns, not neighborhoods, composed only of minorities. Also, in recent history, the difference between being black in the South, versus in your area, is that the blacks knew where they stood in the South.

You come off as one of those who hasn't been beyond your happy little pocket of existence and believe the BS you see on the news. The authorities in OKC booted Connie Chung out of the city in the aftermath of the Murrah Building Bombing because of her east coast attitude. She dared ask the Fire Chief if we (Oklahomans) could handle the rescue effort, implying we needed outside help.

Just remember that when you hear of a tornado in a Red State that the people here help each other and don't whine for the Government, like the Blue States.

Your comments show you're more close-minded that the people you don't know and are criticizing, but are hiding behind the statement, "Oh, it's good they did that" as if they need your approval

If my child were a homosexual I would get them immediate psychological help. Would I love them any less? Of course not. Would I let them know the error of their ways? Of course.

Because someone is a homosexual is not a reason to hate them, it's a reason to help them.

Shoot them? Are you kidding me?

We all base our impression of people on their choices and their lifestyle. To not admit this is disingenious.

And I really couldn't care less what someone thinks about me.

I respect your right to disagree with me and support your right to vote as you see fit.

....holy shit, I wish you were kidding.

Get them help? HOMOSEXUALITY IS NOT A DISORDER.

I respectfully disagree with you.

Not with any legitimate provider you wouldn't. You can only get psychological help for psychological disorders and, as all educated people know, Homosexuality is not a psychological disorder any more than it is a birth defect.

Not everyone agrees with you.

http://www.narth.com/docs/TheTrojanCouchSatinover.pdf

Dr. Satinover extensively outlines research that suggests the impulse to homosexuality (which most frequently manifests itself during adolescence) will spontaneously decrease over time, and will eventually disappear, unless it is given support and encouragement.

“…the reality is that since 1994—for ten years—there has existed solid epidemiological evidence, now extensively confirmed and reconfirmed, that the most common natural course for a young person who develops a “homosexual identity” is for it to spontaneously disappear unless that process is discouraged or interfered with by extraneous factors”

I'm sorry you're so intimidated by the East Coast and so forth, but self-righteousness and accusations of parochialism don't change reality. The more backward areas of the country certainly don't need my approval, but they do need to make progress; and this situation proves that they are.

Seriously, TLS...you need help. A lot of help. And this is a guy that has like 10 different mental disorders.

:guffaw: Wow, I did not expect to come in here and read that. Why is everything always a competition with you? "Your generation sucks!" "You blue state elitists suck!" What is with that?

But then liberals thought putting the poor into virtual slavery by way of welfare was the right thing to do also.
You really try and get away with the most outlandish things you can say, Gertch!

I must interject here and say the only evidence that King David was bi would be from the immoral people who try to discredit the most reliable manuscripts and made up their own. There is no way he could be bi because scripture says that King David was a man after God's own heart and God finds homosexuality disgusting. If a person doesn't want to believe or read what the old testament says about that lifestyle of choice (yes it is a choice) then the first chapter of Romans addresses it to (New Testament)..of course that is for those who care about what scripture says. For those who don't, it's ok..it's there whether you want to believe it or not.
You are very entertaining, I'm Kirk. You make a good addition to this board! :techman:

Yeah, because until a couple of decades ago gay people were not supported and encouraged, and we all know that they do not existed back then!

Nor should they be, in my opinion.

Just a question, is competition bad?

Are you playing obtuse or did the irony just flow over your head?
Maybe the "they do not existed" confused me.
Oooh, I fumbled with a verb when typing in a different language than my own. How horrible, horrible of me. I will take your criticism seriously when you start writing in Italian. Now answer the question.

Whether something is intended to be ironic or not is immaterial. Whether you can communicate in a different language or not is immaterial. What is important is the subject at hand. With regard to this particular subject people are free to agree or not and vote accordingly. Do you have a problem with this?

Well....I always find it when people quote 'scripture'.
First of all, the bible was NOT written by some god. It was written by mere men. Also, for ages, long before we had printing presses, bibles were written by hand...and by candlelight.

Where am I going at with this before you hit the close button? Well, think if one of those monks making a bible came upon a chapter or a verse he did not like and went, "Hey...I don't like this bit. I KNOW! I'll change what I don't like into what I DO like!" So he goes and does a few tweeks here and there and goes, "Not that's better! Now this is what I like!" And if you don't even remotely think the bible was changed over the years, you are either way too devoted, or too stupid....though both go hand in hand.

Also, let's also take into account that not all of us are Christian.
Witchcraft...call me a Pagen or whatever you like, could care less whomever I go to bed with. And, if god's so stuck up on who we get it on with, and wanting to have us suffer after we die because of that....what good is he? That particular god seems to be just a petty tyrant, no better than what one saw in Nazi Germany, the American South of the 50's, or the Middleast today. And given the fact that the Dubya adminstration even attempted to make the total banning of same sex marriage a constitutional AMENDMENT, which pretty much makes Jim Crowe alive and well, shows me that some people protesteth a bit too much.

No I myself find sexual orientation to be 'quaint', since I, akin to Doctor Who's Captain Jack Harkness, I go with anyone I'm attracted to. And I got my sights set on a cute lil trans girl that I chat with regularly, and if someone comes to me, saying that I'm a freak, or worse, that she's a freak...I'm going to take your bible, turn it side ways, and shove it up one of your orafice, and I don't mean one's ass, one corner at a time.

Or start getting phycially aggressive with us, and not in the good way, trying to pull a mathew shepard, let me just say 3 words.

concealed weapons permit.

So, I say stop the aggression, and let everyone enjoy life. There's far more important things to worry about than who sleeps with whom.

You seem to have one set of guidelines for yourself, and another for homosexuals. Christ specifically said not to judge, and yet you do so perpetually. You are unrepentant for doing so. Isn't that hypocritical?
